God’s Anger against Israel 1 DRA When Ephraim spoke, a horror seized Israel: and he sinned in Baal and died. BSB BSB: When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; he was exalted in Israel. But he incurred guilt through Baal, and he died.
DRA And now they have sinned more and more: and they have made to themselves a molten thing of their silver as the likeness of idols: the whole is the work of craftsmen: to these that say: Sacrifice men, ye that adore calves. BSB BSB: Now they sin more and more and make for themselves cast images, idols skillfully made from their silver, all of them the work of craftsmen. People say of them, “They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves!”
DRA Therefore they shall be as a morning aloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the dust that is driven with a whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney. BSB BSB: Therefore they will be like the morning mist, like the early dew that vanishes, like chaff blown from a threshing floor, like smoke through an open window.
DRA But I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt: and thou shalt know no God but me, and there is no saviour beside me. BSB BSB: Yet I am the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt; you know no God but Me, for there is no Savior besides Me.
DRA I knew thee in the desert, in the land of the wilderness. BSB BSB: I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of drought.
DRA According to their pastures they were filled, and were made full: and they lifted up their heart, and have forgotten me. BSB BSB: When they had pasture, they became satisfied; when they were satisfied, their hearts became proud, and as a result they forgot Me.
DRA And I will be to them as a lioness, as a leopard in the way of the Assyrians. BSB BSB: So like a lion I will pounce on them; like a leopard I will lurk by the path.
DRA I will meet them as a bear that is robbed of her whelps, and I will rend the inner parts of their liver: and I will devour them there as a lion, the beast of the field shall tear them. BSB BSB: Like a bear robbed of her cubs I will attack them, and I will tear open their chests. There I will devour them like a lion, like a wild beast tearing them apart.
Death and Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:50–58)
DRA Destruction is thy own, O Israel: thy help is only in me. BSB BSB: You are destroyed, O Israel, because you are against Me—against your helper.
DRA Where is thy king? now especially let him save thee in all thy cities: and thy judges, of whom thou saidst: Give me kings and princes. BSB BSB: Where is your king now to save you in all your cities, and the rulers to whom you said, “Give me a king and princes”?
DRA I will give thee a king in my wrath, and will take him away in my indignation. BSB BSB: So in My anger I gave you a king, and in My wrath I took him away.
DRA The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up, his sin is hidden. BSB BSB: The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is stored up.
DRA The sorrows of a woman in labour snail come upon him, he is an unwise son: for now he shall not stand in the breach of the children. BSB BSB: Labor pains come upon him, but he is an unwise son. When the time arrives, he fails to present himself at the opening of the womb.
DRA I will deliver them out of the hand of death. I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy death; O hell, I will be thy bite: comfort is hidden from my eyes. BSB BSB: I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from Death. Where, O Death, are your plagues? Where, O Sheol, is your sting? Compassion is hidden from My eyes.
Judgment on Samaria 15 DRA Because he shall make a separation between brothers: the Lord will bring a burning wind that shall rise from the desert, and it shall dry up his springs, and shall make his fountain desolate, and he shall carry off the treasure of every desirable vessel. BSB BSB: Although he flourishes among his brothers, an east wind will come—a wind from the LORD rising up from the desert. His fountain will fail, and his spring will run dry. The wind will plunder his treasury of every precious article.
DRA Let Samaria perish, because she hath stirred up her God to bitterness: let them perish by the sword, let their little ones be dashed, and let the women with child be ripped up. BSB BSB: Samaria will bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.
