The Builders of the Walls 1 DRA Then Eliasib the high priest arose, and his brethren the priests, and they built the flock gate: they sanctified it, and set up the doors thereof, even unto the tower of a hundred cubits they sanctified it unto the tower of Hananeel. BSB BSB: At the Sheep Gate, Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests began rebuilding. They dedicated it and installed its doors. After building as far as the Tower of the Hundred and the Tower of Hananel, they dedicated the wall.
2 DRA And next to him the men of Jericho built: and next to them built Zachur the son of Amri. BSB BSB: The men of Jericho built next to Eliashib, and Zaccur son of Imri built next to them.
3 DRA But the fish gate the sons of Asnaa built: they covered it, and set up the doors thereof, and tire locks, and the bars. And next to them built Marimuth the son of Urias the son of Accus. BSB BSB: The Fish Gate was rebuilt by the sons of Hassenaah. They laid its beams and installed its doors, bolts, and bars.
4 DRA And next to him built Mosollam tile son of Barachias, the sell of Merezebel, and next to them built Sadoc the son of Baana. BSB BSB: Next to them, Meremoth son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, made repairs. Next to him, Meshullam son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabel, made repairs; and next to him, Zadok son of Baana made repairs as well.
5 DRA And next to them the Thecuites built: but their great men did not put their necks to the work of their Lord. BSB BSB: Next to him, the Tekoites made repairs, but their nobles did not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.
6 DRA And Joiada the son of Phasea, and Mosollam the son of Besodia built the old gate: they covered it and set up the doors thereof, and the locks, and the bars. BSB BSB: The Jeshanah Gate was repaired by Joiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah. They laid its beams and installed its doors, bolts, and bars.
7 DRA And next to them built Meltias the Gabaonite, and Jadon the Meronathite, the men of Gabaon and Maspha, for the governor that was in the country beyond the river. BSB BSB: Next to them, repairs were made by Melatiah the Gibeonite, Jadon the Meronothite, and the men of Gibeon and Mizpah, who were under the authority of the governor of the region west of the Euphrates.
9 DRA And next to him built Raphaia the son of Hur, lord of the street of Jerusalem. BSB BSB: Next to them, Rephaiah son of Hur, ruler of a half-district of Jerusalem, made repairs;
10 DRA And next to him Jedaia the son of Haromaph over against his own house: and next to him built Hattus the son of Hasebonia. BSB BSB: next to him, Jedaiah son of Harumaph made repairs across from his house; and next to him, Hattush son of Hashabneiah made repairs.
11 DRA Melchias the son of Herem, and Hasub the son of Phahath Moab, built half the street, and the tower of the furnaces. BSB BSB: Malchijah son of Harim and Hasshub son of Pahath-moab repaired another section, as well as the Tower of the Ovens.
12 DRA And next to him built Sellum the son of Alohes, lord of half the street of Jerusalem, he and his daughters. BSB BSB: And next to them, Shallum son of Hallohesh, ruler of the other half-district of Jerusalem, made repairs, with the help of his daughters.
13 DRA And the gate of the valley Hanun built, and the inhabitants of Zanoe: they built it, and set up the doors thereof, and the locks, and the bars, and a thousand cubits in the wall unto the gate of the dunghill. BSB BSB: The Valley Gate was repaired by Hanun and the residents of Zanoah. They rebuilt it, installed its doors, bolts, and bars, and repaired a thousand cubits of the wall as far as the Dung Gate.
14 DRA And the gate of the dunghill Melchias the son of Rechab built, lord of the street of Bethacharam: he built it, and set up the doors thereof, and the locks, and the bars. BSB BSB: The Dung Gate was repaired by Malchijah son of Rechab, ruler of the district of Beth-haccherem. He rebuilt it and installed its doors, bolts, and bars.
15 DRA And the gate of the fountain Sellum the son of Cholhoza built, lord of the street of Maspha: he built it, and covered it, and set up the doors thereof, and the locks, and the bare, and the walls of the pool of Siloe unto the king’s guard, and unto the steps that go down from the city of David. BSB BSB: The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun son of Col-hozeh, ruler of the district of Mizpah. He rebuilt it, roofed it, and installed its doors, bolts, and bars. He also repaired the wall of the Pool of Shelah near the king’s garden, as far as the stairs that descend from the City of David. 16 DRA After him built Nehemias the son of Azboc, lord of half the street of Bethsur, as far as over against the sepulchre of David, and to the pool, that was built with great labour, and to the house of the mighty. BSB BSB: Beyond him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk, ruler of a half-district of Beth-zur, made repairs up to a point opposite the tombs of David, as far as the artificial pool and the House of the Mighty.
17 DRA After him built the Levites, Rehum the son of Benni. After him built Hasebias, lord of half the street of Ceila in his own street. BSB BSB: Next to him, the Levites made repairs under Rehum son of Bani, and next to him, Hashabiah, ruler of a half-district of Keilah, made repairs for his district.
18 DRA After him built their brethren Bavai the son of Enadad, lord of half Ceila. BSB BSB: Next to him, their countrymen made repairs under Binnui son of Henadad, ruler of the other half-district of Keilah.
19 DRA And next to him Aser the son of Josue, lord of Maspha, built another measure, over against the going up of the strong corner. BSB BSB: And next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, ruler of Mizpah, repaired another section opposite the ascent to the armory, near the angle in the wall.
20 DRA After him in the mount Baruch the son of Zachai built another measure, from the corner to the door of the house of Eliasib the high priest. BSB BSB: Next to him, Baruch son of Zabbai diligently repaired another section, from the angle to the doorway of the house of Eliashib the high priest.
21 DRA After him Merimuth the son of Urias the son of Haccus, built another measure, from the door of the house of Eliasib, to the end of the house of Eliasib. BSB BSB: Next to him, Meremoth son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, repaired another section, from the doorway of the house of Eliashib to the end of the house.
22 DRA And after him built the priests, the men of the plains of the Jordan. BSB BSB: And next to him, the priests from the surrounding area made repairs.
23 DRA After him built Benjamin and Hasub, over against their own house: and after him built Azarias the son of Maasias the son of Ananias over against his house. BSB BSB: Beyond them, Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs in front of their house, and next to them, Azariah son of Maaseiah, the son of Ananiah, made repairs beside his house.
24 DRA After him built Bennui the son of Hanadad another measure, from the house of Azarias unto the bending, and unto the corner. BSB BSB: After him, Binnui son of Henadad repaired another section, from the house of Azariah to the angle and the corner,
25 DRA Phalel, the son of Ozi, over against the bending and the tower, which lieth out from the king’s high house, that is, in the court of the prison: after him Phadaia the son of Pharos. BSB BSB: and Palal son of Uzai made repairs opposite the angle and the tower that juts out from the upper palace of the king near the courtyard of the guard. Next to him, Pedaiah son of Parosh
26 DRA And the Nathinites dwelt in Ophel, as far as over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that stood out. BSB BSB: and the temple servants living on the hill of Ophel made repairs opposite the Water Gate toward the east and the tower that juts out.
27 DRA After him the Thecuites built another measure over against, from the great tower that standeth out unto the wall of the temple. BSB BSB: And next to them, the Tekoites repaired another section, from a point opposite the great tower that juts out to the wall of Ophel.
28 DRA And upward from the horse gate the priests built, every man over against his house. BSB BSB: Above the Horse Gate, each of the priests made repairs in front of his own house.
29 DRA After them built Sadoc the son of Emmer over against his house. And after him built Semaia the son of Sechenias, keeper of the east gate. BSB BSB: Next to them, Zadok son of Immer made repairs opposite his house, and next to him, Shemaiah son of Shecaniah, the guard of the East Gate, made repairs.
30 DRA After him built Hanania the son of Selemia, and Hanun the sixth son of Seleph, another measure: after him built Mosollam the son of Barachias over against his treasury. After him Melcias the goldsmith’s son built unto the house of the Nathinites, and of the sellers of small wares, over against the judgment gate, and unto the chamber of the corner. BSB BSB: Next to him, Hananiah son of Shelemiah, as well as Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section. Next to them, Meshullam son of Berechiah made repairs opposite his own quarters.
31 DRA And within the chamber of the corner of the dock gate, the goldsmiths and the merchants built. BSB BSB: Next to him, Malchijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Inspection Gate, and as far as the upper room above the corner.
