Evil in the Last Days 1 UDB I want you to know this: In the final period of time before the Lord returns, it will be very dangerous. BSB BSB: But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come.
UDB People will love themselves more than anyone else. They will love money. They will boast about themselves. They will be proud. They will insult others. They will not obey their parents. They will not thank anyone for anything. They will not honor God. BSB BSB: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
UDB They will not love even their own families. They will refuse to be at peace with anyone. They will slander others. They will not control themselves. They will be brutal toward others. They will not love what is good. BSB BSB: unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good,
UDB They will betray the ones they should protect. They will do dangerous things without thinking. They will be proud, and they will do what pleases themselves instead of loving God. BSB BSB: traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
UDB These men persuade foolish women to let them come into their houses. Then they deceive those women so that they control what they think. These are women who sin all the time, so they follow these evil men into doing all sorts of bad things that they enjoy doing. BSB BSB: They are the kind who worm their way into households and captivate vulnerable women who are weighed down with sins and led astray by various passions,
UDB Even though these women are always wanting to learn new things, they are never able to learn what is actually true. BSB BSB: who are always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.
UDB In the same way that Jannes and Jambres tried to stop Moses, so do these men now try to stop people from obeying the truth. These men are ruined in how they think. They are frauds in matters of the faith. BSB BSB: Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind and disqualified from the faith.
UDB Nevertheless, they will not succeed very much in what they do, because most others will clearly see that these people understand nothing. It is just like how the people of Israel saw that Jannes and Jambres were foolish. BSB BSB: But they will not advance much further. For just like Jannes and Jambres, their folly will be plain to everyone.
All Scripture Is God-Breathed (Hebrews 4:12–16)
UDB Timothy, you have followed what I taught you. You have seen my way of living. You have seen how I want to serve God. You have seen how I trust in him. You have seen how I have peace even when I am suffering. You have seen how I love God and the believers. You have seen how I keep on serving God even when it is very hard to do so. BSB BSB: You, however, have observed my teaching, my conduct, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my perseverance,
UDB You have seen how people persecuted me. You have seen every way in which I suffered when I was in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. I suffered very much in those places, but the Lord has taken me out of all that suffering. BSB BSB: my persecutions, and the sufferings that came upon me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.
UDB Indeed, they will make everyone suffer who wants to live in a way that honors Christ Jesus. BSB BSB: Indeed, all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
UDB Evil men and frauds will continue to become more evil. They will lead people away from what is true, and they will allow others to lead themselves away also. BSB BSB: while evil men and imposters go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
UDB But as for you, keep on doing the things that you have learned to do and the things that you have come to believe are right. Remember me because I am the one who taught you these things. BSB BSB: But as for you, continue in the things you have learned and firmly believed, since you know from whom you have learned them.
UDB Remember also that even when you were a young child, you learned what God says in the scriptures. These can teach you how Christ Jesus saves us when we trust in him. BSB BSB: From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
UDB We should do these things so that God can train every believer and give them what they need in order to do every kind of good thing. BSB BSB: so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
