The People Bring More than Enough 1 UDB Bezalel and Oholiab will take up this work, along with all the other gifted men to whom Yahweh had given skills and the understanding to do all the work needed to build up the sacred tent. These men followed all the instructions that Yahweh gave them. BSB BSB: “So Bezalel, Oholiab, and every skilled person are to carry out everything commanded by the LORD, who has given them skill and ability to know how to perform all the work of constructing the sanctuary.”
UDB So Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab and all the other skilled men to whom Yahweh had given special ability and who wanted to do some of the work. BSB BSB: Then Moses summoned Bezalel, Oholiab, and every skilled person whom the LORD had gifted—everyone whose heart stirred him to come and do the work.
UDB Moses gave them all the things that the people had brought as offerings to Yahweh for making the sacred tent. But the people continued bringing more things every morning. BSB BSB: They received from Moses all the contributions that the Israelites had brought to carry out the service of constructing the sanctuary. Meanwhile, the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning,
UDB As a result, the men who were doing various things to make the sacred tent came to Moses, each of them what Yahweh commanded them. BSB BSB: so that all the skilled craftsmen who were doing all the work on the sanctuary left their work
UDB So the craftsmen said to Moses, "The people are bringing more than we need to do the work that Yahweh has commanded us!" BSB BSB: and said to Moses, “The people are bringing more than enough for doing the work the LORD has commanded us to do.”
UDB So Moses gave them a message that others proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, "No one should bring anything more as an offering to make the sacred tent!" When the people heard that, they did not bring anything more. BSB BSB: After Moses had given an order, they sent a proclamation throughout the camp: “No man or woman should make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing more,
UDB What they had already brought was enough to do all the work. In fact, it was more than was needed! BSB BSB: since what they already had was more than enough to perform all the work.
The Ten Curtains for the Tabernacle (Exodus 26:1–6)
UDB All the most skilled men among the workmen made the sacred tent. They made it from ten strips of fine linen, and they carefully embroidered it using blue, purple, and red woolen yarn to make figures that resembled the winged creatures. Bezalel designed all this. BSB BSB: All the skilled craftsmen among the workmen made the ten curtains for the tabernacle. They were made of finely spun linen, as well as blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, with cherubim skillfully worked into them.
UDB Each strip was twelve and four-fifths meters long and one and four-fifths meters wide. BSB BSB: Each curtain was twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide; all the curtains were the same size.
UDB Bezalel and his men sewed five strips together to make one set, and they sewed the other five strips together to make the other set. BSB BSB: And he joined five of the curtains together, and the other five he joined as well.
UDB For each set, Bezalel and his men made loops of blue cloth and fastened them on the outer edge of the strip, at the end of each set. BSB BSB: He made loops of blue material on the edge of the end curtain in the first set, and also on the end curtain in the second set.
UDB They put fifty loops on the edge of the first set, and fifty loops on the edge of the second set. BSB BSB: He made fifty loops on one curtain and fifty loops on the end curtain of the second set, so that the loops lined up opposite one another.
UDB They made fifty gold fasteners to attach both of the sets together. In that way, the inside of the sacred tent was as though it were one piece. BSB BSB: He also made fifty gold clasps to join the curtains together, so that the tabernacle was a unit.
The Eleven Curtains of Goat Hair (Exodus 26:7–14)
UDB Bezalel and his men made a cover for the sacred tent from eleven pieces of cloth made from goats' hair. BSB BSB: He then made curtains of goat hair for the tent over the tabernacle—eleven curtains in all.
UDB Each piece of cloth was eighteen and one-third meters long and one and four-fifths meters wide. BSB BSB: Each of the eleven curtains was the same size—thirty cubits long and four cubits wide.
UDB They sewed five of these pieces of cloth together to make one set, and they sewed the other six pieces of cloth together to make another set. BSB BSB: He joined five of the curtains into one set and the other six into another.
UDB They made one hundred loops of blue cloth. They fastened fifty of them to the outer edge of the one set and they fastened fifty to the outer edge of the other set. BSB BSB: He made fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain in the first set, and fifty loops along the edge of the corresponding curtain in the second set.
UDB Bezalel and his men made fifty bronze clasps and joined the two sets together with them. In that way it formed one cover. BSB BSB: He also made fifty bronze clasps to join the tent together as a unit.
UDB They made two more covers for the sacred tent. They made one from rams' skins that had been tanned, and they made the top cover from goatskin leather. BSB BSB: Additionally, he made for the tent a covering of ram skins dyed red, and over that a covering of fine leather.
The Frames and Bases (Exodus 26:15–30)
UDB Bezalel and his men made forty-eight frames from acacia wood and set them up to support the covers for the sacred tent. BSB BSB: Next, he constructed upright frames of acacia wood for the tabernacle.
UDB Each frame was four and three-fifths meters long and three-quarters of a meter wide. BSB BSB: Each frame was ten cubits long and a cubit and a half wide.
UDB They made two projections at the bottom of each frame. These were for fastening the frames to the bases underneath them. Each frame had these projections. BSB BSB: Two tenons were connected to each other for each frame. He made all the frames of the tabernacle in this way.
UDB The skilled workmen made twenty frames for the south side of the sacred tent. BSB BSB: He constructed twenty frames for the south side of the tabernacle,
UDB Bezalel and his men made forty silver bases to go underneath them. Two bases went under each frame. The projections on each frame fit into these bases. BSB BSB: with forty silver bases to put under the twenty frames—two bases for each frame, one under each tenon.
UDB Similarly, they made twenty frames for the north side of the sacred tent. BSB BSB: For the second side of the tabernacle, the north side, he made twenty frames
UDB They also made forty silver bases for them with two bases under each frame. BSB BSB: and forty silver bases—two bases under each frame.
UDB For the rear of the sacred tent, on the west side, Bezalel and his men made six frames. BSB BSB: He made six frames for the rear of the tabernacle, the west side,
UDB They also made two extra frames, one for each corner of the rear of the sacred tent, to provide extra support. BSB BSB: and two frames for the two back corners of the tabernacle,
UDB The two corner frames were separate from each other at the bottom but joined together at the top. At the top of each of the two corner frames, Bezalel and his men fastened a gold ring for holding the crossbar. BSB BSB: coupled together from bottom to top and fitted into a single ring. He made both corners in this way.
UDB In that way, for the rear of the sacred tent there were eight frames, and there were sixteen bases, two bases under each frame. BSB BSB: So there were eight frames and sixteen silver bases—two under each frame.
UDB Bezalel and his men made fifteen crossbars from acacia wood. Five of them were for the frames on the north side of the sacred tent, BSB BSB: He also made five crossbars of acacia wood for the frames on one side of the tabernacle,
UDB five for the south side, and five for the frames at the rear of the sacred tent, the west side. BSB BSB: five for those on the other side, and five for those on the rear side of the tabernacle, to the west.
UDB The workmen made crossbars on the north, south, and west sides of the sacred tent and fastened them to the middle of the frames. The two long crossbars extended from one end of the sacred tent to the other, and the crossbar on the west side extended from one side of the sacred tent to the other. BSB BSB: He made the central crossbar to run through the center of the frames, from one end to the other.
UDB The workmen covered the frames with gold and fastened gold rings to the poles. They then put the crossbars into the rings. They also covered the crossbars with gold. BSB BSB: And he overlaid the frames with gold and made gold rings to hold the crossbars. He also overlaid the crossbars with gold.
The Veil (Exodus 26:31–35)
UDB Bezalel and his men made a curtain from fine white linen. Skilled craftsmen embroidered it with blue, purple, and red woolen yarn, making designs to represent the winged creatures. BSB BSB: Next, he made the veil of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen, with cherubim skillfully worked into it.
UDB They hung the curtain from four posts that were made from acacia wood and covered with gold. They set each post in a silver base. BSB BSB: He also made four posts of acacia wood for it and overlaid them with gold, along with gold hooks; and he cast four silver bases for the posts.
The Curtain for the Entrance (Exodus 26:36–37)
UDB Bezalel and his men made a curtain to cover the entrance of the sacred tent. They made it from fine linen, and a skilled weaver embroidered it with blue, purple, and red woolen yarn. BSB BSB: For the entrance to the tent, he made a curtain embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen,
UDB To support this curtain, they also made five posts from acacia wood and fastened gold clasps to them. They covered the posts and their rods with gold and made a bronze base for each of those posts. BSB BSB: together with five posts and their hooks. He overlaid the tops of the posts and their bands with gold, and their five bases were bronze.
