The Ephod (Exodus 28:6–14)
UDB Bezalel, Oholiab, and the other skilled workmen made the beautiful clothes for Aaron to wear while he did his work as a priest in the holy place. They made them from blue, purple, and red woolen cloth, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: From the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn they made specially woven garments for ministry in the sanctuary, as well as the holy garments for Aaron, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
UDB They made the sacred apron from fine white linen and from blue, purple, and red woolen cloth. BSB BSB: Bezalel made the ephod of finely spun linen embroidered with gold, and with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn.
UDB They hammered some thin sheets of gold and cut them into thin strips that they embroidered into the fine linen and into the blue, purple, and red cloth. BSB BSB: They hammered out thin sheets of gold and cut threads from them to interweave with the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine linen—the work of a skilled craftsman.
UDB The sacred apron had two shoulder straps, to join the front part to the back part at its sides. BSB BSB: They made shoulder pieces for the ephod, which were attached at two of its corners, so it could be fastened.
UDB A carefully woven belt, which was made from the same materials as the sacred apron, was sewn onto the sacred apron. This was made exactly as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: And the skillfully woven waistband of the ephod was of one piece with the ephod, of the same workmanship—with gold, with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and with finely spun linen, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
UDB Bezalel and his men cut two onyx stones and enclosed them in a tiny frame, and a skilled gem cutter engraved on the stones the names of the twelve sons of Jacob. BSB BSB: They mounted the onyx stones in gold filigree settings, engraved like a seal with the names of the sons of Israel.
UDB They fastened the stones to the shoulder straps of the sacred apron to represent the twelve tribes of Israel, exactly as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: Then they fastened them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
The Breastpiece (Exodus 28:15–30)
UDB They made the sacred chest pouch with the same materials as the sacred apron and embroidered it in the same way. BSB BSB: He made the breastpiece with the same workmanship as the ephod, with gold, with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and with finely spun linen.
UDB It was square, and the material was folded double, so that it was twenty-three centimeters on each side. BSB BSB: It was square when folded over double, a span long and a span wide.
UDB They fastened four rows of valuable stones onto the pouch. In the first row, they put a red ruby, a yellow topaz, and a red garnet. BSB BSB: And they mounted on it four rows of gemstones: The first row had a ruby, a topaz, and an emerald;
UDB In the second row, they put a green emerald, a blue sapphire, and a white diamond. BSB BSB: the second row had a turquoise, a sapphire, and a diamond;
UDB In the third row they put a red jacinth, a white agate, and a purple amethyst. BSB BSB: the third row had a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;
UDB In the fourth row, they put a yellow beryl, a red carnelian, and a green jasper. They put tiny gold frames around each of the stones. BSB BSB: and the fourth row had a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. These stones were mounted in gold filigree settings.
UDB On each of the twelve stones they engraved the name of one of the sons of Jacob, to represent one of the twelve tribes of Israel. BSB BSB: The twelve stones corresponded to the names of the sons of Israel. Each stone was engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
UDB They made two chains from pure gold and braided them like cords, to attach the sacred pouch to the sacred apron. BSB BSB: For the breastpiece they made braided chains like cords of pure gold.
UDB They made two gold rings, and they attached them to the upper corners of the sacred pouch. BSB BSB: They also made two gold filigree settings and two gold rings, and fastened the two rings to the two corners of the breastpiece.
UDB They fastened one end of each gold chain to a ring. BSB BSB: Then they fastened the two gold chains to the two gold rings at the corners of the breastpiece,
UDB They fastened the other end of each chain to one of the two settings that enclosed the stones and then attached the sacred pouch to the shoulder straps of the sacred apron. BSB BSB: and they fastened the other ends of the two chains to the two filigree settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front.
UDB Then they made two more gold rings and attached them to the lower corners of the sacred pouch, on the inside edges, next to the sacred apron. BSB BSB: They made two more gold rings and attached them to the other two corners of the breastpiece, on the inside edge next to the ephod.
UDB They made two more gold rings and attached them to the lower part of the front of the shoulder straps, near to where the shoulder straps were joined to the sacred apron, just above the carefully woven sash. BSB BSB: They made two additional gold rings and attached them to the bottom of the two shoulder pieces of the ephod, on its front, near the seam just above its woven waistband.
UDB They tied the rings on the sacred pouch to the rings on the sacred apron with a blue cord, so that the sacred pouch was above the sash and would not come loose from the sacred apron. They did these things just as Yahweh had instructed Moses to do. BSB BSB: Then they tied the rings of the breastpiece to the rings of the ephod with a cord of blue yarn, so that the breastpiece was above the waistband of the ephod and would not swing out from the ephod, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Additional Priestly Garments (Exodus 28:31–43)
UDB They made the robe that was to be worn underneath the priest's sacred apron; they used only blue cloth. BSB BSB: They made the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth, the work of a weaver,
UDB It had an opening through which the priest would put his head. They sewed a border around this opening to prevent the material from tearing. BSB BSB: with an opening in the center of the robe like that of a garment, with a collar around the opening so that it would not tear.
UDB At the lower edge on the robe they fastened decorations that resembled pomegranate fruit. The decorations were woven from blue, purple, and red woolen yarn. BSB BSB: They made pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and finely spun linen on the lower hem of the robe.
UDB Between each of these decorations, they fastened a tiny bell made from pure gold BSB BSB: They also made bells of pure gold and attached them around the hem between the pomegranates,
UDB for Aaron to wear while he did his work as a priest. They made all these things exactly as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: alternating the bells and pomegranates around the lower hem of the robe to be worn for ministry, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
UDB They wove long-sleeved tunics from fine linen for Aaron and his sons. BSB BSB: For Aaron and his sons they made tunics of fine linen, the work of a weaver,
UDB They also made a turban of fine linen for Aaron to wear around his head. They made the caps and the undershorts for Aaron's sons from fine linen. BSB BSB: as well as the turban of fine linen, the ornate headbands and undergarments of finely spun linen,
UDB They made the embroidered sash for Aaron from fine linen and from blue, purple, and red woolen cloth, and they embroidered designs on it using blue, purple, and red woolen yarn, exactly as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: and the sash of finely spun linen, embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
UDB They also made the tiny ornament of pure gold and had a skilled workman engrave on it the words, "Dedicated to Yahweh." BSB BSB: They also made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and they engraved on it, like an inscription on a seal: HOLY TO THE LORD.
UDB They fastened this to the front of the turban by a blue cord, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: Then they fastened to it a blue cord to mount it on the turban, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Moses Approves the Work 32 UDB Finally, they finished all the work of making the sacred tent and brought everything to Moses. They had made them exactly as Yahweh had commanded them to. BSB BSB: So all the work for the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, was completed. The Israelites did everything just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
UDB They brought to him the sacred tent and all the things that were used with it—the hooks, the frames, the crossbars, the posts and their bases; BSB BSB: Then they brought the tabernacle to Moses: the tent with all its furnishings, its clasps, its frames, its crossbars, and its posts and bases;
UDB the coverings for the sacred tent that were made of tanned rams' skins and goatskins; the curtains; BSB BSB: the covering of ram skins dyed red, the covering of fine leather, and the veil of the covering;
UDB the sacred chest that contained the stone slabs on which the commandments were written and the lid for the chest. BSB BSB: the ark of the Testimony with its poles and the mercy seat;
UDB The workers also finished these items for the sacred tent: The table with all the things to be used with it and the bread to display before God; BSB BSB: the table with all its utensils and the Bread of the Presence;
