The Portions for the Tribes 1 UDB Here is a list of the tribes of Israel and the territory that each tribe is to receive. The northern boundary of Israel will start at the Mediterranean Sea and go east to the city of Hethlon, then to Lebo Hamath, and farther on to Hazar Enan, which is south of Damascus, and it will continue to Hamath. Each tribe will receive land that will extend from the eastern boundary of Israel west to the Great Sea. The tribe of Dan will receive land alongside the northern border of Israel. BSB BSB: “Now these are the names of the tribes: At the northern frontier, Dan will have one portion bordering the road of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath and running on to Hazar-enan on the border of Damascus with Hamath to the north, and extending from the east side to the west side.
2 UDB South of their area will be the territory for the tribe of Asher. BSB BSB: Asher will have one portion bordering the territory of Dan from east to west.
3 UDB South of Asher's land will be territory for the tribe of Naphtali. BSB BSB: Naphtali will have one portion bordering the territory of Asher from east to west.
4 UDB South of Naphtali's land will be territory for the tribe of Manasseh. BSB BSB: Manasseh will have one portion bordering the territory of Naphtali from east to west.
5 UDB South of Manasseh's land will be territory for the tribe of Ephraim. BSB BSB: Ephraim will have one portion bordering the territory of Manasseh from east to west.
6 UDB South of Ephraim's land will be territory for the tribe of Reuben. BSB BSB: Reuben will have one portion bordering the territory of Ephraim from east to west.
7 UDB South of their land will be territory for the tribe of Judah. BSB BSB: Judah will have one portion bordering the territory of Reuben from east to west.
The Portions for the Priests and Levites 8 UDB South of Judah's land will be an area that the entire nation will give to me; you will set it apart for special use. The temple will be in the center of this area. It will be as long as any of the portions of land assigned a tribe of Israel. BSB BSB: Bordering the territory of Judah, from east to west, will be the portion you are to set apart. It will be 25,000 cubits wide, and the length of a tribal portion from east to west. In the center will be the sanctuary.
9 UDB This special area will be thirteen and one-half kilometers long and five and two-fifths kilometers wide. This is what you will give to Yahweh. BSB BSB: The special portion you set apart to the LORD shall be 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits wide.
10 UDB Within this special area, these will what you will assign to the priests: you will assign them an area of land measuring thirteen and one-half kilometers on the northern and southern side; and five and two-fifths kilometers on the western and eastern sides. The temple of Yahweh will be in the middle of this special area. BSB BSB: This will be the holy portion for the priests. It will be 25,000 cubits long on the north side, 10,000 cubits wide on the west side, 10,000 cubits wide on the east side, and 25,000 cubits long on the south side. In the center will be the sanctuary of the LORD.
11 UDB The temple area will be for the priests, those set apart for my honor, who are descendants of Zadok. They are ones who served me faithfully and did not turn away from Yahweh as the descendants of Levi did. BSB BSB: It will be for the consecrated priests, the descendants of Zadok, who kept My charge and did not go astray as the Levites did when the Israelites went astray.
12 UDB When the land is distributed, you will offer that special area to me, for it to be the priests' special portion; it is land that you will treat as very special to me. Next to the priests' territory will be where the other descendants of Levi will live. BSB BSB: It will be a special portion for them set apart from the land, a most holy portion adjacent to the territory of the Levites.
13 UDB The land that you will assign to the descendants of Levi will be the same size as the land that the priests will receive. So together, these two portions of land will be thirteen and one-half kilometers long and about eleven kilometers wide. BSB BSB: Bordering the territory of the priests, the Levites shall have an area 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits wide. The whole length will be 25,000 cubits, and the width 10,000 cubits.
14 UDB None of this special land, this best land, may ever be sold or traded or used by other people, because it belongs to Yahweh. It is set apart for him. BSB BSB: They must not sell or exchange any of it, and they must not transfer this best part of the land, for it is holy to the LORD.
The Common Portion 15 UDB Another strip of land thirteen and one-half kilometers long and about two and three-quarters kilometers wide will be allotted for other people iving in the special area to use. There they may build homes and have pasturelands, and there will be a city in the middle of this area. BSB BSB: The remaining area, 5,000 cubits wide and 25,000 cubits long, will be for common use by the city, for houses, and for pastureland. The city will be in the center of it
16 UDB The city will be square, two and two-fifths kilometers long on each side. BSB BSB: and will have these measurements: 4,500 cubits on the north side, 4,500 cubits on the south side, 4,500 cubits on the east side, and 4,500 cubits on the west side.
17 UDB There will be an open area around the city, within the special area, that will be about 135 meters deep in each direction. BSB BSB: The pastureland of the city will extend 250 cubits to the north, 250 cubits to the south, 250 cubits to the east, and 250 cubits to the west.
18 UDB Outside the city there will be a farming area that will extend five and two-fifths kilometers on the east side and five and two-fifths kilometers on the west side. Men who work there will produce food for the people who work in the city. BSB BSB: The remainder of the length bordering the holy portion and running adjacent to it will be 10,000 cubits on the east side and 10,000 cubits on the west side. Its produce will supply food for the workers of the city.
19 UDB Those who come from the various tribes to work in the city may also work in this farmland. BSB BSB: The workers of the city who cultivate it will come from all the tribes of Israel.
20 UDB This entire special area, including the land given for Yahweh's use and the city, will be a square that is thirteen and one-half kilometers long on each side. BSB BSB: The entire portion will be a square, 25,000 cubits by 25,000 cubits. You are to set apart the holy portion, along with the city property.
The Portion for the Prince 21 UDB The tracts of land to the east and to the west of Yahweh's area and the city will belong to the ruler. One area will extend east to the eastern boundary of Israel, and the other will extend west to the Great Sea. Yahweh's area, which contains the temple, will be in the middle. BSB BSB: The remaining area on both sides of the holy portion and of the property of the city will belong to the prince. He will own the land adjacent to the tribal portions, extending eastward from the 25,000 cubits of the holy district toward the eastern border, and westward from the 25,000 cubits to the western border. 22 UDB The area that belongs to the ruler will be between the tribe of Judah to the north and the tribe of Benjamin to the south. BSB BSB: So the Levitical property and the city property will lie in the center of the area belonging to the prince—the area between the borders of Judah and Benjamin.
The Portions for the Remaining Tribes 23 UDB South of Yahweh's area, each of the other tribes will receive one portion of land that extends from the eastern boundary of Israel west to the Great Sea. Just south of Yahweh's area will be territory for the tribe of Benjamin. BSB BSB: As for the rest of the tribes: Benjamin will have one portion extending from the east side to the west side.
24 UDB South of Benjamin's land will be the land for the tribe of Simeon. BSB BSB: Simeon will have one portion bordering the territory of Benjamin from east to west.
25 UDB South of Simeon's land will be the land for the tribe of Issachar. BSB BSB: Issachar will have one portion bordering the territory of Simeon from east to west.
26 UDB South of Issachar's land will be the land for the tribe of Zebulun. BSB BSB: Zebulun will have one portion bordering the territory of Issachar from east to west.
27 UDB South of Zebulun's land will be the land for the tribe of Gad. BSB BSB: And Gad will have one portion bordering the territory of Zebulun from east to west.
28 UDB The southern boundary of Gad's land will extend south from En Gedi to the springs at Meribah Kadesh, and then to the west along the brook of Egypt to the Great Sea. BSB BSB: The southern border of Gad will run from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, then along the Brook of Egypt and out to the Great Sea.
29 UDB This is a description of the land that you must assign to the tribes of Israel, for it to belong to them permanently.' That is what I, Yahweh the Lord, declare. BSB BSB: This is the land you are to allot as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel, and these will be their portions,” declares the Lord GOD.
The City Gates and Dimensions 30 UDB Here are the city gates: On the north side, which is two and two-fifths kilometers long, BSB BSB: “These will be the exits of the city: Beginning on the north side, which will be 4,500 cubits long,
31 UDB there will be three gates. Each gate will have the name of one of the tribes of Israel. The first one will be named for Reuben, the next for Judah, the next for Levi. BSB BSB: the gates of the city will be named after the tribes of Israel. On the north side there will be three gates: the gate of Reuben, the gate of Judah, and the gate of Levi.
32 UDB On the east side, also two and two-fifths kilometers long, will be gates named for Joseph, Benjamin, and Dan. BSB BSB: On the east side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, there will be three gates: the gate of Joseph, the gate of Benjamin, and the gate of Dan.

35 UDB The distance around the city would be nine and three-quarters kilometers. From that time on, the name of the city will be "Yahweh is there." BSB BSB: The perimeter of the city will be 18,000 cubits, and from that day on the name of the city will be: THE LORD IS THERE.”
