Corruption on the Earth (Matthew 24:36–51)
UDB When people began to become very numerous all over the earth, and many daughters were born to them, BSB BSB: Now when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them,
UDB some of the heavenly beings saw that the human women were very beautiful. So they took whichever ones they chose to become their wives. BSB BSB: the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took as wives whomever they chose.
UDB Then Yahweh said, "My breath will not remain in people forever, to keep them alive. They are made of weak flesh. They will live not more than 120 years before they die." BSB BSB: So the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days shall be 120 years.”
UDB When these heavenly beings slept with human women, they gave birth to children. These were the giants who lived on the earth at that time and also later. These giants were heroic fighters; they were famous men from long ago. BSB BSB: The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and afterward as well—when the sons of God had relations with the daughters of men. And they bore them children who became the mighty men of old, men of renown.
UDB Yahweh was sorry that he had made people on the earth and it made him sad. BSB BSB: And the LORD regretted that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
UDB So Yahweh said, "I will completely destroy the people I made. I will also destroy all the larger animals and the creatures that move close to the ground and the birds. None of them will remain on the earth, because I regret that I made them." BSB BSB: So the LORD said, “I will blot out man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—every man and beast and crawling creature and bird of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them.”
Noah’s Favor with God 8 UDB But Yahweh was pleased with Noah. BSB BSB: Noah, however, found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
UDB This is what happened: Noah was a man whose behavior was always righteous. No one who lived at that time could criticize him about anything. Noah lived in close fellowship with God. BSB BSB: This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God.
UDB Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. BSB BSB: And Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
UDB God could see that everyone else on earth was very wicked, and everywhere on the earth, people were acting cruelly and violently toward each other. BSB BSB: Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and full of violence.
UDB God looked at everyone and saw how evil people were because all people on the earth had begun to behave in an evil way. BSB BSB: And God looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt; for all living creatures on the earth had corrupted their ways.
Preparing the Ark (Hebrews 11:7)
UDB So God said to Noah, "I have decided to destroy all people because all over the earth people are acting violently toward each other. So I am about to get rid of them as well as everything else on the earth. BSB BSB: Then God said to Noah, “The end of all living creatures has come before Me, because through them the earth is full of violence. Now behold, I will destroy both them and the earth.
UDB Make for yourself a large boat from cypress wood. Make rooms inside it. Cover the outside and the inside with tar to make it waterproof. BSB BSB: Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark and coat it with pitch inside and out.
UDB This is how you must make it: It must be 138 meters long, twenty-three meters wide, and fourteen meters high. BSB BSB: And this is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.
UDB Make a roof for the boat. Leave a space of about half a meter between the sides and the roof to let air and light enter. Make it with three decks inside, and put a door in one side. BSB BSB: You are to make a roof for the ark, finish its walls a cubit from the top, place a door in the side of the ark, and build lower, middle, and upper decks.
UDB Listen carefully! I am about to bring a flood that will destroy everything that lives beneath the sky. Everything on the earth will die. BSB BSB: And behold, I will bring floodwaters upon the earth to destroy every creature under the heavens that has the breath of life. Everything on the earth will perish.
UDB But I will make my covenant with you. You and your wife, your sons and their wives will enter the boat. BSB BSB: But I will establish My covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.
UDB You must also bring two of all living creatures, a male and a female, into the boat with you, so that they also may remain alive. BSB BSB: And you are to bring two of every living creature into the ark—male and female—to keep them alive with you.
UDB Two of every kind of creature will come to you in order for you to keep them alive. They will include two of each kind of bird and two of each kind of larger animal and two of each kind of creature that moves close to the ground. BSB BSB: Two of every kind of bird and animal and crawling creature will come to you to be kept alive.
UDB You must also take some of every kind of food that you and all these creatures will need, and store it in the boat." BSB BSB: You are also to take for yourself every kind of food that is eaten and gather it as food for yourselves and for the animals.”
UDB So Noah did everything that God told him to do. BSB BSB: So Noah did everything precisely as God had commanded him.
