Job Submits Himself to the LORD 1 UDB Then Job replied to Yahweh. He said, BSB BSB: Then Job replied to the LORD:
UDB "I know that you can do everything and that no one can stop you from doing what you want to do. BSB BSB: “I know that You can do all things and that no plan of Yours can be thwarted.
UDB You asked me, 'Who are you to bring confusion to what I plan to do? You are speaking ignorantly!' It is true that I spoke about things that I did not understand, things that are very amazing, things about which I know nothing. BSB BSB: You asked, ‘Who is this who conceals My counsel without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
UDB You said to me, 'Listen while I talk to you. I want to ask you some questions, so prepare yourself to answer them.' BSB BSB: You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak. I will question you, and you shall inform Me.’
UDB I had heard about you previously by rumor, but now it is as though I have seen you with my own eyes. BSB BSB: My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You.
UDB Therefore I am ashamed of what I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show that I am sorry for what I said." BSB BSB: Therefore I despise myself, and I repent in dust and ashes.”
The LORD Rebukes Job’s Friends 8 UDB So now you must take to Job seven young bulls and seven rams and kill them and burn them on the altar as a sacrifice for yourselves. Then Job will pray for you, and I will do what he requests me to do. I will forgive you for speaking wrongly about me. I will not punish you, even though you deserve to be punished, because what you said about me was not right." BSB BSB: So now, take seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. Then My servant Job will pray for you, for I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken accurately about Me, as My servant Job has.”
UDB So Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar did what Yahweh commanded them to do, and Yahweh did what Job requested him to do for the three of them. BSB BSB: So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the LORD had told them; and the LORD accepted Job’s prayer.
The LORD Blesses Job 10 UDB After Job prayed for his three friends, Yahweh healed him and caused him to become rich again. Yahweh gave him twice as many things as he had before. BSB BSB: After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his prosperity and doubled his former possessions.
UDB Then all his brothers and sisters, and all the people who had known him before, came to his house, and they had a feast together. They consoled him because of all the troubles that Yahweh had allowed to happen to him. Each of them gave Job a piece of silver and a gold ring. BSB BSB: All his brothers and sisters and prior acquaintances came and dined with him in his house. They consoled him and comforted him over all the adversity that the LORD had brought upon him. And each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.
UDB Then Yahweh blessed Job in the second half of his life more than he had blessed him in the first half of his life. He now acquired fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. BSB BSB: So the LORD blessed Job’s latter days more than his first. He owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.
UDB And he also had seven more sons and three more daughters. BSB BSB: And he also had seven sons and three daughters.
UDB He named the first daughter Jemimah, he named the second daughter Keziah, and he named the third daughter Keren Happuch. BSB BSB: He named his first daughter Jemimah, his second Keziah, and his third Keren-happuch.
UDB In all of the land of Uz, there were no young women who were as beautiful as the daughters of Job, and Job declared that they would inherit some of his possessions, just as their brothers would inherit some. BSB BSB: No women as beautiful as Job’s daughters could be found in all the land, and their father granted them an inheritance among their brothers.
UDB After that, Job lived 140 more years. Before he died, he saw his great-great-grandchildren. BSB BSB: After this, Job lived 140 years and saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.
UDB He was very old when he died. BSB BSB: And so Job died, old and full of years.
