In My Father’s House Are Many Rooms 2 UDB Where my Father lives there are many places to live. If that were not true, I would have told you. I go there to prepare a place for you. BSB BSB: In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
3 UDB If I am going there to prepare a place for you, I will return and take you to be with me, so that where I am, there you may be with me. BSB BSB: And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.
4 UDB You know where I am going, and you know the way." BSB BSB: You know the way to the place where I am going.”
The Way, the Truth, and the Life 5 UDB Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" BSB BSB: “Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”
7 UDB If you knew me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and you have seen him." BSB BSB: If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”
8 UDB Philip said to Jesus, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be all we will ever want!" BSB BSB: Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
10 UDB Do you not believe that I am joined to my Father and that my Father is joined to me? The things I have told you—I did not think of these things; rather, it is my Father who has sent me to tell you all of these things, for my Father is joined to me and works through me. BSB BSB: Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works.
11 UDB Trust me because I have told you that I am joined to the Father and that the Father is joined to me, or else trust me because of all the signs and mighty acts you have seen me do. BSB BSB: Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me—or at least believe on account of the works themselves.
12 UDB I am telling you the truth: Whoever trusts in me will also do the things that I do. He will do even greater works because I am going to be with the Father. BSB BSB: Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 UDB Whatever you ask in my name, that I will do. I will do this in order that everyone might honor the Father and that they might know the Father because of everything that I, his Son, do. BSB BSB: And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 UDB If you ask the Father for anything because you belong to me, I will do it. BSB BSB: If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit (John 16:5–16)
17 UDB He is the Spirit who tells the truth about God. The unbelieving people in this world will never welcome Him. The world cannot see him or know him. You know him because he lives with you and he will be joined to you. BSB BSB: the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.
18 UDB I will not abandon you and leave you with no one to care for you; I will come to you. BSB BSB: I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 UDB Soon the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live. BSB BSB: In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.
20 UDB When you see me again, you will know that I am joined to the Father and that you are joined to me and I to you. BSB BSB: On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.
21 UDB Everyone who has heard my commandments and obeys them, they are the ones who love me. And the ones who love me, my Father will love them also; I will love them and I will reveal myself to them." BSB BSB: Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”
22 UDB Then Judas (not Iscariot, but the other disciple with the same name) spoke to Jesus. He said, "Lord, how will you reveal yourself just to us and not to the whole world?" BSB BSB: Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”
24 UDB As for those who do not love me, they will not obey what I have told them to do. The things I have told you are not things that I have decided to say on my own; instead, they are things that my Father has sent me to tell you. BSB BSB: Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.
25 UDB I have said these things to you while I am still with you. BSB BSB: All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
Peace I Leave with You 29 UDB I have told you these things now before they happen so that, when they do happen, you will continue to trust me. BSB BSB: And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
30 UDB I will not be able to talk with you much longer because the ruler of this world is coming. However, he has no power over me, BSB BSB: I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.
31 UDB and I will do what the Father has commanded me to do. This is so that the world will know forever that I love the Father. Come, let us go from here. BSB BSB: But I do exactly what the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us go on from here.
