Aaron’s Staff Buds 1 UDB Then Yahweh said to Moses, BSB BSB: And the LORD said to Moses,
UDB "Tell the Israelite people to bring to you twelve walking sticks. They should bring one from each of the leaders of the twelve tribes. You should carve each leader's name on his stick. BSB BSB: “Speak to the Israelites and take from them twelve staffs, one from the leader of each tribe. Write each man’s name on his staff,
UDB There must be one stick for the leader of each tribe, so you must carve Aaron's name on the stick for the tribe of Levi. BSB BSB: and write Aaron’s name on the staff of Levi, because there must be one staff for the head of each tribe.
UDB Put those walking sticks inside the sacred tent, in front of the sacred chest that has in it the tablets on which the Ten Commandments are written. That is the place where I always talk with you. BSB BSB: Place the staffs in the Tent of Meeting in front of the Testimony, where I meet with you.
UDB Buds will sprout on the stick of the man whom I have chosen to be the priest. When the people see that, they will stop their constant complaining about you because they will realize that he is the one whom I have chosen." BSB BSB: The staff belonging to the man I choose will sprout, and I will rid Myself of the constant grumbling of the Israelites against you.”
UDB So Moses told the people what Yahweh had said. Then each of the twelve Israelite leaders, including Aaron, brought his walking stick to Moses. BSB BSB: So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and each of their leaders gave him a staff—one for each of the leaders of their tribes, twelve staffs in all. And Aaron’s staff was among them.
UDB Moses placed the sticks inside the sacred tent in front of the sacred chest. BSB BSB: Then Moses placed the staffs before the LORD in the Tent of the Testimony.
UDB The following morning, when he went into the tent, he saw that Aaron's stick, which represented the tribe of Levi, had sprouted. It had produced leaves and blossoms, and it had also produced almonds that were ripe! BSB BSB: The next day Moses entered the Tent of the Testimony and saw that Aaron’s staff, representing the house of Levi, had sprouted, put forth buds, blossomed, and produced almonds.
UDB Moses brought all the sticks out of the sacred tent and showed them to the people. Each of the twelve leaders took back his own stick. BSB BSB: Then Moses brought out all the staffs from the LORD’s presence to all the Israelites. They saw them, and each man took his own staff.
UDB Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Put Aaron's stick in front of the sacred chest, and let it stay there permanently. That will be a warning to people who want to rebel against me. Then no more people will die because of complaining against me." BSB BSB: The LORD said to Moses, “Put Aaron’s staff back in front of the Testimony, to be kept as a sign for the rebellious, so that you may put an end to their grumbling against Me, lest they die.”
UDB So Moses did what Yahweh had commanded. BSB BSB: So Moses did as the LORD had commanded him.
UDB Then the Israelite people said to Moses, "We are going to die! All of us are surely going to die! BSB BSB: Then the Israelites declared to Moses, “Look, we are perishing! We are lost; we are all lost!
UDB Everyone who comes close to Yahweh's sacred tent dies. Are the rest of us going to die, also?" BSB BSB: Anyone who comes near the tabernacle of the LORD will die. Are we all going to perish?”
