Taste and See That the LORD Is Good (1 Samuel 21:8–15)
1 UDB I will always thank Yahweh; I will constantly praise him. BSB BSB: Of David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, so that the king drove him away. I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.
2 UDB I will praise Yahweh for what he has done. All those who are oppressed should listen to me and rejoice. BSB BSB: My soul boasts in the LORD; let the oppressed hear and rejoice.
3 UDB Join with me in telling others that Yahweh is great! You and I should together proclaim how glorious he is! BSB BSB: Magnify the LORD with me; let us exalt His name together.
4 UDB I prayed to Yahweh, and he answered my prayer; he rescued me from all those who caused me to be afraid. BSB BSB: I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
5 UDB Those who trust that he will help them will be joyful; they will never have to look down in disgrace. BSB BSB: Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces shall never be ashamed.
6 UDB I was miserable, but I called out to Yahweh, and he heard me. He rescued me from all my troubles. BSB BSB: This poor man called out, and the LORD heard him; He saved him from all his troubles.
7 UDB An angel from Yahweh guards those who have an awesome respect for him, and the angel rescues them. BSB BSB: The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them.
8 UDB Try for yourself, and you will experience that Yahweh is good to you! How fortunate are those who trust him to protect them. BSB BSB: Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
9 UDB All you who belong to him, have an awesome respect for him! Those who do that will always have the things that they need. BSB BSB: Fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing.
10 UDB Lions are usually very strong, but sometimes even young lions are hungry and become weak. However, those who trust in Yahweh will have everything that they need. BSB BSB: Young lions go lacking and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
11 UDB You who are my students, come and listen to me, and I will teach you how to have an awesome respect for Yahweh. BSB BSB: Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 UDB If any of you wants to enjoy life and have a good long life, BSB BSB: Who is the man who delights in life, who desires to see good days?
13 UDB do not speak what it evil! Do not tell lies! BSB BSB: Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech.
14 UDB Refuse to do evil; instead, do what is good! Always try hard to enable people to live peacefully with each other! BSB BSB: Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
15 UDB Yahweh carefully watches over those who act righteously; he always responds to them when they call to him for help. BSB BSB: The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are inclined to their cry.
16 UDB But Yahweh works against those who do what is evil. After they die, people here on earth will forget them completely. BSB BSB: But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to wipe out all memory of them from the earth.
17 UDB Yahweh hears righteous people when they call out to him; he rescues them from all their troubles. BSB BSB: The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears; He delivers them from all their troubles.
18 UDB Yahweh is always ready to help those who are discouraged; he rescues those who have no hope for anything good. BSB BSB: The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.
19 UDB Righteous people may have many troubles, but Yahweh rescues them from all those troubles. BSB BSB: Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him from them all.
20 UDB Yahweh protects them from being harmed; when their enemies attack them, they will not break any bones of those righteous people. BSB BSB: He protects all his bones; not one of them will be broken.
21 UDB Disasters will kill the wicked people, and Yahweh will punish those who oppose righteous people. BSB BSB: Evil will slay the wicked, and the haters of the righteous will be condemned.
22 UDB Yahweh will save those who serve him. He will not condemn those who trust in him. BSB BSB: The LORD redeems His servants, and none who take refuge in Him will be condemned.
