Living for God’s Glory (1 Corinthians 10:23–33)
UEB Therefore, because Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same intention. For whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin. BSB BSB: Therefore, since Christ suffered in His body, arm yourselves with the same resolve, because anyone who has suffered in his body is done with sin.
UEB As a result, such a person, for the rest of his time in the flesh, no longer lives for men's desires, but for God's will. BSB BSB: Consequently, he does not live out his remaining time on earth for human passions, but for the will of God.
UEB You have spent enough time doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passion, drunkenness, drunken celebrations, having wild parties, and committing disgusting acts of idolatry. BSB BSB: For you have spent enough time in the past carrying out the same desires as the Gentiles: living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and detestable idolatry.
UEB They think it is strange that you do not join with them in these floods of reckless behavior, so they speak evil about you. BSB BSB: Because of this, they consider it strange of you not to plunge with them into the same flood of reckless indiscretion, and they heap abuse on you.
UEB They will give an account to the one who is ready to judge the living and the dead. BSB BSB: But they will have to give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
UEB The end of all things is coming near. Therefore be of sound mind, and be sober in your thinking for the sake of prayers. BSB BSB: The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear-minded and sober, so that you can pray.
UEB Above all things, have fervent love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. BSB BSB: Above all, love one another deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
UEB Be hospitable to one another without complaining. BSB BSB: Show hospitality to one another without complaining.
UEB As each one of you has received a gift, use it to serve one another, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. BSB BSB: As good stewards of the manifold grace of God, each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve one another.
UEB If anyone speaks, let it be with God's words. If anyone serves, let it be from the strength that God supplies. Do these things so that in all ways God would be glorified through Jesus Christ. May there be to Jesus Christ glory and power forever and ever. Amen. BSB BSB: If anyone speaks, he should speak as one conveying the words of God. If anyone serves, he should serve with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
Suffering as Christians 12 UEB Beloved, do not regard as strange the testing in the fire that has happened to you, as if something strange were happening to you. BSB BSB: Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you, as though something strange were happening to you.
UEB Instead, however much you experience the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that you may also rejoice and be glad at the revealing of his glory. BSB BSB: But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed at the revelation of His glory.
UEB If you are insulted for Christ's name, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of God is resting on you. BSB BSB: If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
UEB But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or a meddler. BSB BSB: Indeed, none of you should suffer as a murderer or thief or wrongdoer, or even as a meddler.
UEB But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; instead, let him glorify God with that name. BSB BSB: But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear that name.
UEB For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey God's gospel? BSB BSB: For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?
UEB And "If it is difficult for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?" BSB BSB: And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
UEB Therefore let those who suffer because of God's will entrust their souls to the faithful Creator in well-doing. BSB BSB: So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should entrust their souls to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
