Living to Please God 1 UEB Finally, brothers, we encourage and exhort you in the Lord Jesus. As you received instructions from us about how you must walk and please God, also in this way walk, so that you do so even more. BSB BSB: Finally, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus to live in a way that is pleasing to God, just as you have received from us. This is how you already live, so you should do so all the more.
2 UEB For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. BSB BSB: For you know the instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3 UEB For this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you avoid sexual immorality, BSB BSB: For it is God’s will that you should be holy: You must abstain from sexual immorality;
4 UEB that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in holiness and honor, BSB BSB: each of you must know how to control his own body in holiness and honor,
5 UEB not in the passion of lust (as the Gentiles who do not know God). BSB BSB: not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God;
6 UEB Let no man transgress and wrong his brother in this matter. For the Lord is an avenger in all these things, just as we forewarned you and testified. BSB BSB: and no one should ever violate or exploit his brother in this regard, because the Lord will avenge all such acts, as we have already told you and solemnly warned you.
7 UEB For God did not call us to uncleanness, but to holiness. BSB BSB: For God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness.
8 UEB Therefore, he who rejects this rejects not people, but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. BSB BSB: Anyone, then, who rejects this command does not reject man but God, the very One who gives you His Holy Spirit.
9 UEB Regarding brotherly love, you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another. BSB BSB: Now about brotherly love, you do not need anyone to write to you, because you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another.
10 UEB Indeed, you do this for all the brothers who are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brothers, to do this even more. BSB BSB: And you are indeed showing this love to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to excel more and more
11 UEB We also exhort you to aspire to live quietly, take care of your own responsibilities, and work with your hands, just as we commanded you, BSB BSB: and to aspire to live quietly, to attend to your own matters, and to work with your own hands, as we instructed you.
12 UEB so that you may walk properly before outsiders and not be in any need. BSB BSB: Then you will behave properly toward outsiders, without being dependent on anyone.
The Return of the Lord 14 UEB For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. BSB BSB: For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.
15 UEB For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left at the coming of the Lord, will surely not go before those who have fallen asleep. BSB BSB: By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep.
17 UEB Then we who are alive, who are left, will together with them be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. In this way we will always be with the Lord. BSB BSB: After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
18 UEB Therefore, comfort one another with these words. BSB BSB: Therefore encourage one another with these words.
