The Ark Enters the Temple (1 Kings 8:1–11)
UEB When all the work that Solomon did for the house of Yahweh was completed, Solomon brought in the things that David, his father, had set apart for this purpose, including the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings—he placed them into the treasuries of the house of God. BSB BSB: So all the work that Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings—and he placed them in the treasuries of the house of God.
UEB Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes, and the leaders of the families of the people of Israel, in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Yahweh from the city of David, that is, Zion. BSB BSB: At that time Solomon assembled in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the tribal heads and family leaders of the Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from Zion, the City of David.
UEB All the men of Israel assembled before the king at the feast, which was in the seventh month. BSB BSB: So all the men of Israel came together to the king at the feast in the seventh month.
UEB All the elders of Israel came, and the Levites took up the ark. BSB BSB: When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the Levites took up the ark,
UEB They brought up the ark, the tent of meeting, and all the holy furnishings that were in the tent. The priests who were of the tribe of Levi brought these things up. BSB BSB: and they brought up the ark and the Tent of Meeting with all its sacred furnishings. The Levitical priests carried them up.
UEB King Solomon and all the assembly of Israel came together before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen that could not be counted. BSB BSB: There, before the ark, King Solomon and the whole congregation of Israel who had assembled with him sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.
UEB The priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to its place, into the inner room of the house, to the most holy place, under the wings of the cherubim. BSB BSB: Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, beneath the wings of the cherubim.
UEB For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, and they covered the ark and the poles by which it was carried. BSB BSB: For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its poles.
UEB The poles were so long that their ends were seen from the holy place in front of the inner room, but they could not be seen from outside. They are there to this day. BSB BSB: The poles of the ark extended far enough that their ends were visible from in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.
UEB There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had put there at Horeb, when Yahweh made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of Egypt. BSB BSB: There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of Egypt.
UEB It came about that the priests came out of the holy place. All the priests who were present had consecrated themselves to Yahweh, not ordering themselves according to their divisions. BSB BSB: Now all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves regardless of their divisions. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place,
UEB Also the Levites who were the singers, all of them, including Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and brothers, clothed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps, and lyres, stood at the east end of the altar. With them were 120 priests blowing trumpets. BSB BSB: all the Levitical singers—Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps, and lyres, accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets.
UEB It came about that the trumpeters and singers made music together, making one sound to be heard for praising and thanking Yahweh. They raised their voices with the trumpets and cymbals and other instruments, and they praised Yahweh. They sang, "For he is good, for his covenant loyalty endures forever." Then the house, the house of Yahweh, was filled with a cloud. BSB BSB: The trumpeters and singers joined together to praise and thank the LORD with one voice. They lifted up their voices, accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments, in praise to the LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures forever.” And the temple, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud
UEB The priests could not stand in order to serve because of the cloud, for the glory of Yahweh filled his house. BSB BSB: so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud. For the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.
