Reaffirm Your Love 1 UEB So I decided for my own part that I would not again come to you in painful circumstances. BSB BSB: So I made up my mind not to make another painful visit to you.
2 UEB If I caused you pain, who could cheer me up but the very one who was hurt by me? BSB BSB: For if I grieve you, who is left to cheer me but those whom I have grieved?
3 UEB I wrote as I did in order that when I came to you I might not be hurt by those who should have made me rejoice. I have confidence about all of you that my joy is the same joy you all have. BSB BSB: I wrote as I did so that on my arrival I would not be grieved by those who ought to make me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would share my joy.
4 UEB For I wrote to you from great affliction, with anguish of heart, and with many tears. I did not want to cause you pain. Instead, I wanted you to know the depth of the love that I have for you. BSB BSB: For through many tears I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart, not to grieve you but to let you know how much I love you.
5 UEB If anyone has caused pain, he has not caused it only to me, but in some measure—not to put it too harshly—to all of you. BSB BSB: Now if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me but all of you—to some degree, not to overstate it.
6 UEB This punishment of that person by the majority is enough. BSB BSB: The punishment imposed on him by the majority is sufficient for him.
7 UEB So now rather than punishment, you should forgive and comfort him. Do this so that he is not overwhelmed by too much sorrow. BSB BSB: So instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.
8 UEB So I encourage you to publicly affirm your love for him. BSB BSB: Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.
9 UEB This was the reason I wrote, so that I might test you and know whether you are obedient in everything. BSB BSB: My purpose in writing you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.
10 UEB If you forgive anyone, I forgive that person as well. What I have forgiven—if I have forgiven anything—it is forgiven for your sake in the presence of Christ. BSB BSB: If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And if I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven it in the presence of Christ for your sake,
11 UEB This is so that Satan will not trick us. For we are not ignorant of his plans. BSB BSB: in order that Satan should not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
Triumph in Christ 12 UEB A door was opened to me by the Lord when I came to the city of Troas to preach the gospel of Christ there. BSB BSB: Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and a door stood open for me in the Lord,

14 UEB But may thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumph. Through us he spreads the sweet aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. BSB BSB: But thanks be to God, who always leads us triumphantly as captives in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.
15 UEB For we are to God the sweet aroma of Christ, both among those who are saved and among those who are perishing. BSB BSB: For we are to God the sweet aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
16 UEB To the people who are perishing, it is an aroma from death to death. To the ones being saved, it is an aroma from life to life. Who is worthy of these things? BSB BSB: To the one we are an odor that brings death, to the other a fragrance that brings life. And who is qualified for such a task?
17 UEB For we are not like so many people who sell the word of God for profit. Instead, with purity of motives, we speak in Christ, as we are sent from God, in the sight of God. BSB BSB: For we are not like so many others, who peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as men sent from God.
