A Greeting from Peter (1 Peter 1:1–2)
UEB Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received the same precious faith as we have received, faith in the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
UEB May grace and peace increase in measure in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. BSB BSB: Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Partakers of the Divine Nature 3 UEB All the things concerning divine power for life and godliness have been given to us through the knowledge of God, who called us through his own glory and excellence. BSB BSB: His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
UEB For this reason, do your best to add goodness to your faith; and to goodness add knowledge; BSB BSB: For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge;
UEB to knowledge add self-control; to self-control add endurance; to endurance add godliness; BSB BSB: and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
UEB to godliness add brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection add love. BSB BSB: and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
UEB If these things are in you and grow in you, you will not be barren or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: For if you possess these qualities and continue to grow in them, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
UEB But whoever lacks these things is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten he has been cleansed from his past sins. BSB BSB: But whoever lacks these traits is nearsighted to the point of blindness, having forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
UEB Therefore, brothers, do your best to make your calling and election sure, for if you do these things, you will not stumble. BSB BSB: Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble,
UEB In this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
UEB Therefore I will always be ready to remind you of these things, although you know them, and although you are strong in the truth you now have. BSB BSB: Therefore I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you now have.
UEB It is proper for me to think, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by way of reminder. BSB BSB: I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of my body,
UEB For I know that the putting off of my tent will be soon, because our Lord Jesus Christ has revealed this to me. BSB BSB: because I know that this tent will soon be laid aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
UEB I will make every effort to see that after my departure you may be always able to remember these things. BSB BSB: And I will make every effort to ensure that after my departure, you will be able to recall these things at all times.
Eyewitnesses of His Majesty (Matthew 17:1–13; Mark 9:1–13; Luke 9:28–36)
UEB For he received honor and glory from God the Father when a voice was brought to him by the Majestic Glory saying, "This is my beloved Son, with him I am well pleased." BSB BSB: For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
UEB We ourselves heard this voice brought from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. BSB BSB: And we ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
UEB For we have this prophetic word made more sure, and you do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. BSB BSB: We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
UEB Above all, you must understand that no prophecy comes from someone's own interpretation. BSB BSB: Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation.
UEB For no prophecy was ever brought by the will of man, but men spoke from God when they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. BSB BSB: For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
