The Song of Moses (Revelation 15:1–4)
UEB Give ear, you heavens, and let me speak. Let the earth listen to the words of my mouth. BSB BSB: Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
UEB Let my teaching drop down like the rain, let my speech distill like the dew, like the gentle rain on the tender grass, and like the showers on the plants. BSB BSB: Let my teaching fall like rain and my speech settle like dew, like gentle rain on new grass, like showers on tender plants.
UEB For I will proclaim the name of Yahweh, and ascribe greatness to our God. BSB BSB: For I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Ascribe greatness to our God!
UEB The Rock, his work is perfect; for all his paths are just. He is the faithful God, without iniquity. He is just and upright. BSB BSB: He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just. A God of faithfulness without injustice, righteous and upright is He.
UEB They have acted corruptly against him. They are not his children. It is their disgrace. They are a perverted and crooked generation. BSB BSB: His people have acted corruptly toward Him; the blemish on them is not that of His children, but of a perverse and crooked generation.
UEB Do you reward Yahweh in this way, you foolish and senseless people? Is he not your father, the one who has created you? He made you and established you. BSB BSB: Is this how you repay the LORD, O foolish and senseless people? Is He not your Father and Creator? Has He not made you and established you?
UEB Call to mind the days of ancient times, think about the years of many ages past. Ask your father and he will show you, your elders and they will tell you. BSB BSB: Remember the days of old; consider the years long past. Ask your father, and he will tell you, your elders, and they will inform you.
UEB When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance— when he divided all of mankind, and he set the boundaries of the peoples, as he also fixed the number of their gods. BSB BSB: When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when He divided the sons of man, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God.
UEB For Yahweh's portion is his people; Jacob is his apportioned inheritance. BSB BSB: But the LORD’s portion is His people, Jacob His allotted inheritance.
UEB He found him in a desert land, and in the barren and howling wilderness; he shielded him and cared for him, he guarded him as the apple of his eye. BSB BSB: He found him in a desert land, in a barren, howling wilderness; He surrounded him, He instructed him, He guarded him as the apple of His eye.
UEB As an eagle that guards her nest and flutters over her young, Yahweh spread out his wings and took them, and carried them on his pinions. BSB BSB: As an eagle stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, He spread His wings to catch them and carried them on His pinions.
UEB Yahweh alone led him; no foreign god was with him. BSB BSB: The LORD alone led him, and no foreign god was with him.
UEB He made him ride on high places of the land, and he fed him the fruits of the field; he nourished him with honey from the rock, and oil from the flinty crag. BSB BSB: He made him ride on the heights of the land and fed him the produce of the field. He nourished him with honey from the rock and oil from the flinty crag,
UEB He ate butter from the herd and drank milk from the flock, with fat of lambs, rams of Bashan and goats, with the finest of the wheat— and you drank foaming wine made from the juice of grapes. BSB BSB: with curds from the herd and milk from the flock, with the fat of lambs, with rams from Bashan, and goats, with the choicest grains of wheat. From the juice of the finest grapes you drank the wine.
UEB But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked— you grew fat, you were too fat, and you had eaten your fill— he abandoned the God who made him, and he rejected the Rock of his salvation. BSB BSB: But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked—becoming fat, bloated, and gorged. He abandoned the God who made him and scorned the Rock of his salvation.
UEB They made Yahweh jealous by their strange gods; with their abominations they angered him. BSB BSB: They provoked His jealousy with foreign gods; they enraged Him with abominations.
UEB They sacrificed to demons, which are not God— gods they had not known, gods that recently appeared, gods your fathers did not fear. BSB BSB: They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they had not known, to newly arrived gods, which your fathers did not fear.
UEB You have deserted the Rock, who became your father, and you forgot the God who gave you birth. BSB BSB: You ignored the Rock who brought you forth; you forgot the God who gave you birth.
UEB Yahweh saw this and he rejected them, because his sons and his daughters provoked him so. BSB BSB: When the LORD saw this, He rejected them, provoked to anger by His sons and daughters.
UEB "I will hide my face from them," he said, "and I will see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation, children who are unfaithful. BSB BSB: He said: “I will hide My face from them; I will see what will be their end. For they are a perverse generation—children of unfaithfulness.
UEB They have made me jealous by what is not god and angered me by their worthless things. I will make them envious by those who are not a people; by a foolish nation I will make them angry. BSB BSB: They have provoked My jealousy by that which is not God; they have enraged Me with their worthless idols. So I will make them jealous by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation without understanding.
UEB For a fire is kindled by my anger and is burning to the lowest Sheol; it is devouring the earth and its harvest; it is setting on fire the foundations of the mountains. BSB BSB: For a fire has been kindled by My anger, and it burns to the depths of Sheol; it consumes the earth and its produce, and scorches the foundations of the mountains.
UEB I will heap disasters on them; I will shoot all my arrows at them; BSB BSB: I will heap disasters upon them; I will spend My arrows against them.
UEB They will be wasted by hunger and devoured by burning heat and bitter destruction; I will send on them the teeth of wild animals, with the poison of things that crawl in the dust. BSB BSB: They will be wasted from hunger and ravaged by pestilence and bitter plague; I will send the fangs of wild beasts against them, with the venom of vipers that slither in the dust.
UEB Outside the sword will bereave, and in the bedrooms terror will do so. It will destroy both young man and virgin, the nursing baby, and the man of gray hairs. BSB BSB: Outside, the sword will take their children, and inside, terror will strike the young man and the young woman, the infant and the gray-haired man.
UEB I said that I would scatter them far away, that I would make the memory of them to cease from among mankind. BSB BSB: I would have said that I would cut them to pieces and blot out their memory from mankind,
UEB Were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, and that their enemies would judge mistakenly, and that they would say, 'Our hand is exalted,' I would have done all this. BSB BSB: if I had not dreaded the taunt of the enemy, lest their adversaries misunderstand and say: ‘Our own hand has prevailed; it was not the LORD who did all this.’”
UEB For Israel is a nation devoid of wisdom, and there is no understanding in them. BSB BSB: Israel is a nation devoid of counsel, with no understanding among them.
UEB Oh, that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their coming fate! BSB BSB: If only they were wise, they would understand it; they would comprehend their fate.
UEB How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and Yahweh had given them up? BSB BSB: How could one man pursue a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up?
UEB For our enemies' rock is not like our Rock, just as even our enemies admit. BSB BSB: For their rock is not like our Rock, even our enemies concede.
UEB For their vine comes from the vine of Sodom, and from the fields of Gomorrah; their grapes are grapes of poison; their clusters are bitter. BSB BSB: But their vine is from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poisonous; their clusters are bitter.
UEB Their wine is the poison of serpents and the cruel venom of asps. BSB BSB: Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras.
UEB Is not this plan secretly kept by me, sealed up among my treasures? BSB BSB: “Have I not stored up these things, sealed up within My vaults?
UEB Vengeance is mine to give, and recompense, at the time when their foot slips; for the day of disaster for them is near, and the things that are to come on them will hurry to happen." BSB BSB: Vengeance is Mine; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; for their day of disaster is near, and their doom is coming quickly.”
UEB For Yahweh will give justice to his people, and he will pity his servants. He will see that their power is gone, and no one remains, either slaves or free people. BSB BSB: For the LORD will vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants when He sees that their strength is gone and no one remains, slave or free.
UEB Then he will say, "Where are their gods, the rock in whom they took refuge?— BSB BSB: He will say: “Where are their gods, the rock in which they took refuge,
UEB The gods who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you; let them be your protection. BSB BSB: which ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you; let them give you shelter!
UEB See now that I, even I, am God, and that there is no god besides me; I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal, and there is no one who can save you from my might. BSB BSB: See now that I am He; there is no God besides Me. I bring death and I give life; I wound and I heal, and there is no one who can deliver from My hand.
UEB For I lift up my hand to heaven and say, 'As I live forever, I will act. BSB BSB: For I lift up My hand to heaven and declare: As surely as I live forever,
UEB When I sharpen my glittering sword, and when my hand begins to bring justice, I will render vengeance on my enemies, and I will pay back those who hate me. BSB BSB: when I sharpen My flashing sword, and My hand grasps it in judgment, I will take vengeance on My adversaries and repay those who hate Me.
UEB I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword will devour flesh with the blood of the killed and the captives, and from the heads of the leaders of the enemy.'" BSB BSB: I will make My arrows drunk with blood, while My sword devours flesh—the blood of the slain and captives, the heads of the enemy leaders.”
UEB Rejoice, you nations, with God's people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants; he will render vengeance on his enemies, and he will make atonement for his land, for his people. BSB BSB: Rejoice, O heavens, with Him, and let all God’s angels worship Him. Rejoice, O nations, with His people; for He will avenge the blood of His children. He will take vengeance on His adversaries and repay those who hate Him; He will cleanse His land and His people.
UEB Moses came and recited all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Joshua son of Nun. BSB BSB: Then Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people.
UEB Then Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel. BSB BSB: When Moses had finished reciting all these words to all Israel,
UEB He said to them, "Fix your mind on all the words that I have witnessed to you today, so that you may command your children to keep them, all the words of this law. BSB BSB: he said to them, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to carefully follow all the words of this law.
UEB For this is no trivial matter for you, because it is your life, and through this thing you will prolong your days in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess." BSB BSB: For they are not idle words to you, because they are your life, and by them you will live long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
Moses’ Death Foretold 48 UEB Yahweh spoke to Moses on that same day and said, BSB BSB: On that same day the LORD said to Moses,
UEB "Go up into this range of the mountains of Abarim, up Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, opposite Jericho. You will look at the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel as their possession. BSB BSB: “Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount Nebo, in the land of Moab across from Jericho, and view the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites as their own possession.
UEB You will die on the mountain that you go up, and you will be gathered to your people, as Aaron your fellow Israelite died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people. BSB BSB: And there on the mountain that you climb, you will die and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people.
UEB This will happen because you were unfaithful to me among the people of Israel at the waters of Meribah in Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because you did not treat me with honor and respect among the people of Israel. BSB BSB: For at the waters of Meribah-kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin, both of you broke faith with Me among the Israelites by failing to treat Me as holy in their presence.
UEB For you will see the land before you, but you will not go there, into the land that I am giving to the people of Israel." BSB BSB: Although you shall see from a distance the land that I am giving the Israelites, you shall not enter it.”
