Ezekiel 15 15 Ezekiel Judgment on Jerusalem Unlocked English Bible Jerusalem the Useless Vine 1 UEB Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, BSB BSB: Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
UEB "Son of man, how is a vine better than any tree with branches that is among the trees in a forest? BSB BSB: “Son of man, how does the wood of the vine surpass any other branch among the trees in the forest?
UEB Do people take wood from a vine to make anything? Or do they make a peg from it to hang anything on it? BSB BSB: Can wood be taken from it to make something useful? Or can one make from it a peg on which to hang utensils?
UEB See! If it is thrown into a fire as fuel, and if the fire has burned both of its ends and also the middle, is it good for anything? BSB BSB: No, it is cast into the fire for fuel. The fire devours both ends, and the middle is charred. Can it be useful for anything?
UEB See! When it was complete, it could not make anything; surely then, when the fire has burned, then it still will not make anything useful. BSB BSB: Even when it was whole, it could not be made useful. How much less can it ever be useful when the fire has consumed it and charred it!
UEB Therefore the Lord Yahweh says this: Unlike the trees in the forests, I have given the vine as fuel for fires; I will act in the same way toward the inhabitants of Jerusalem. BSB BSB: Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Like the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so I will give up the people of Jerusalem.
UEB For I will set my face against them. Though they come out from the fire, yet the fire will consume them; so you will know that I am Yahweh, when I set my face against them. BSB BSB: And I will set My face against them. Though they may have escaped the fire, yet another fire will consume them. And when I set My face against them, you will know that I am the LORD.
UEB Then I will make the land into an abandoned wasteland because they have committed sin—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration." BSB BSB: Thus I will make the land desolate, because they have acted unfaithfully,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
