Corruption on the Earth (Matthew 24:36–51)
UEB It came about when mankind began to multiply on the earth and daughters were born to them, BSB BSB: Now when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them,
UEB that the sons of God saw that the daughters of mankind were attractive. They took for themselves wives, any of them that they chose. BSB BSB: the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took as wives whomever they chose.
UEB Yahweh said, "My spirit will not remain in mankind forever, for they are flesh. They will live 120 years." BSB BSB: So the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days shall be 120 years.”
UEB Giants were on the earth in those days, and also afterward. This happened when the sons of God married daughters of men, and they had children with them. These were the mighty men of old, men of renown. BSB BSB: The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and afterward as well—when the sons of God had relations with the daughters of men. And they bore them children who became the mighty men of old, men of renown.
UEB Yahweh regretted that he had made mankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. BSB BSB: And the LORD regretted that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
UEB So Yahweh said, "I will wipe away mankind whom I have created from the surface of the earth; both mankind and the larger animals, and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them." BSB BSB: So the LORD said, “I will blot out man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—every man and beast and crawling creature and bird of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them.”
Noah’s Favor with God 8 UEB But Noah found favor in the eyes of Yahweh. BSB BSB: Noah, however, found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
UEB These were the events concerning Noah. Noah was a righteous man, and blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God. BSB BSB: This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God.
UEB Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. BSB BSB: And Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
UEB The earth was corrupt before God, and it was filled with violence. BSB BSB: Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and full of violence.
UEB God saw the earth; behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth. BSB BSB: And God looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt; for all living creatures on the earth had corrupted their ways.
Preparing the Ark (Hebrews 11:7)
UEB God said to Noah, "I can see that it is time to put an end to all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Indeed, I will destroy them with the earth. BSB BSB: Then God said to Noah, “The end of all living creatures has come before Me, because through them the earth is full of violence. Now behold, I will destroy both them and the earth.
UEB Make for yourself an ark of cypress wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it with pitch within and without. BSB BSB: Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark and coat it with pitch inside and out.
UEB This is how you will make it: The length of the ark is to be three hundred cubits; the breadth of it is to be fifty cubits, and the height of it is to be thirty cubits. BSB BSB: And this is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.
UEB Make a roof for the ark, and finish it at a cubit from the top of the side. Place a door in the side of the ark and make a lower, a second, and a third deck. BSB BSB: You are to make a roof for the ark, finish its walls a cubit from the top, place a door in the side of the ark, and build lower, middle, and upper decks.
UEB Listen, I am about to bring the flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh that has in it the breath of life from under heaven. Everything that is on the earth will die. BSB BSB: And behold, I will bring floodwaters upon the earth to destroy every creature under the heavens that has the breath of life. Everything on the earth will perish.
UEB But I will establish my covenant with you. You will come into the ark, you, and your sons, and your wife, and your sons' wives with you. BSB BSB: But I will establish My covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.
UEB Of every living creature of all flesh, two of every kind you must bring into the ark, to keep them alive with you, both male and female. BSB BSB: And you are to bring two of every living creature into the ark—male and female—to keep them alive with you.
UEB Of the birds after their kind, and of the larger animals after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every sort will come to you, to keep them alive. BSB BSB: Two of every kind of bird and animal and crawling creature will come to you to be kept alive.
UEB Gather for yourself every kind of food that is eaten and store it, so that it will be food for you and for them." BSB BSB: You are also to take for yourself every kind of food that is eaten and gather it as food for yourselves and for the animals.”
UEB So Noah did this. According to all that God commanded him, so he did. BSB BSB: So Noah did everything precisely as God had commanded him.
