The Perfect High Priest (Psalm 110:1–7)
UEB For every high priest, chosen from among people, is appointed to act on the behalf of people in the things concerning God, so that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. BSB BSB: Every high priest is appointed from among men to represent them in matters relating to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
UEB He can deal gently with those who are ignorant and who have been deceived, because he himself is subject to weakness. BSB BSB: He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and misguided, since he himself is subject to weakness.
UEB Because of this, he also is required to offer sacrifices for his own sins, just as he does for the people's sins. BSB BSB: That is why he is obligated to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.
UEB It is not for himself that anyone takes this honor. Instead, he is called by God, just as Aaron was. BSB BSB: No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was.
UEB In the same way, neither did Christ honor himself by making himself high priest. Instead, the one speaking to him said, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father." BSB BSB: So also Christ did not take upon Himself the glory of becoming a high priest, but He was called by the One who said to Him: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.”
UEB It is just as he also says in another place, "You are a priest forever after the manner of Melchizedek." BSB BSB: And in another passage God says: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”
UEB During the days of his flesh, Christ offered up both prayers and requests with loud cries and tears to God, the one able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his godly life. BSB BSB: During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.
UEB Even though he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. BSB BSB: Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from what He suffered.
UEB He was made perfect and became, for everyone who obeys him, the cause of eternal salvation. BSB BSB: And having been made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him
UEB He was designated by God as high priest after the manner of Melchizedek. BSB BSB: and was designated by God as high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
Milk and Solid Food (1 Corinthians 3:1–9)
UEB We have much to say about Jesus, but it is hard to explain since you have become dull in hearing. BSB BSB: We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain, because you are dull of hearing.
UEB For though by this time you should be teachers, you still have need for someone to teach you the basic principles of God's messages. You need milk, not solid food! BSB BSB: Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to reteach you the basic principles of God’s word. You need milk, not solid food!
UEB For anyone who only takes milk is inexperienced with the message of righteousness, because he is still a little child. BSB BSB: For everyone who lives on milk is still an infant, inexperienced in the message of righteousness.
UEB But solid food is for adults. These are those who because of their maturity have their understanding trained for distinguishing good from evil. BSB BSB: But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their senses to distinguish good from evil.
