Israel’s Stubbornness 2 UEB For they call themselves people of the holy city and trust in the God of Israel. Yahweh of hosts is his name. BSB BSB: who indeed call yourselves after the holy city and lean on the God of Israel; the LORD of Hosts is His name.
3 UEB "I have declared the things from long ago; they came out from my mouth, and I made them known; then suddenly I did them, and they came to pass. BSB BSB: I foretold the former things long ago; they came out of My mouth and I proclaimed them. Suddenly I acted, and they came to pass.
4 UEB Because I knew that you were obstinate, your neck muscles tight as iron, and your forehead like bronze, BSB BSB: For I knew that you are stubborn; your neck is iron and your forehead is bronze.
5 UEB therefore I declared these things to you beforehand; before they happened I informed you, so you could not say, 'My idol has done them,' or 'My carved figure and my cast metal figure has ordained these things.' BSB BSB: Therefore I declared it to you long ago; I announced it before it came to pass, so that you could not claim, ‘My idol has done this; my carved image and molten god has ordained it.’
6 UEB You heard about these things; look at all this evidence; and you, will you not admit what I said is true? From now on, I am showing you new things, hidden things that you have not known. BSB BSB: You have heard these things; look at them all. Will you not acknowledge them? From now on I will tell you of new things, hidden things unknown to you.
7 UEB Now, and not from previously, they come into being, and before today you have not heard about them, so you will not be able to say, 'Yes, I knew about them.' BSB BSB: They are created now, and not long ago; you have not heard of them before today. So you cannot claim, ‘I already knew them!’
8 UEB You never heard; you did not know; these things were not unfolded to your ears beforehand. For I knew that you have been very deceitful, and that you have been a rebel from birth. BSB BSB: You have never heard; you have never understood; for a long time your ears have not been open. For I knew how deceitful you are; you have been called a rebel from birth.
9 UEB For the sake of my name I will defer my anger, and for my honor I will hold back from destroying you. BSB BSB: For the sake of My name I will delay My wrath; for the sake of My praise I will restrain it, so that you will not be cut off.
10 UEB Look, I refined you, but not as silver; I have purified you in the furnace of affliction. BSB BSB: See, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
11 UEB For my own sake, for my own sake I will act; for how can I allow my name to be profaned? I will not give my glory to anyone else. BSB BSB: For My own sake, My very own sake, I will act; for how can I let Myself be defamed? I will not yield My glory to another.
Deliverance Promised to Israel 12 UEB Listen to me, Jacob, and Israel, whom I called: I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. BSB BSB: Listen to Me, O Jacob, and Israel, whom I have called: I am He; I am the first, and I am the last.
13 UEB Yes, my hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand up together. BSB BSB: Surely My own hand founded the earth, and My right hand spread out the heavens; when I summon them, they stand up together.
14 UEB Assemble yourselves, all of you, and listen! Who among you has announced these things? Yahweh's ally will accomplish his purpose against Babylon. He will carry out Yahweh's will against the Chaldeans. BSB BSB: Come together, all of you, and listen: Which of the idols has foretold these things? The LORD’s chosen ally will carry out His desire against Babylon, and His arm will be against the Chaldeans.
15 UEB I, I have spoken, yes, I have summoned him, I have brought him, and he will succeed. BSB BSB: I, even I, have spoken; yes, I have called him. I have brought him, and he will succeed in his mission.
16 UEB Come near to me, listen to this: From the beginning I have not spoken in secret; when it happens, I am there." Now the Lord Yahweh has sent me, and his Spirit. BSB BSB: Come near to Me and listen to this: From the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time it happened, I was there.” And now the Lord GOD has sent me, accompanied by His Spirit.
17 UEB This is what Yahweh, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says, "I am Yahweh your God, who teaches you how to succeed, who leads you by the way that you should go. BSB BSB: Thus says the LORD your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you for your benefit, who directs you in the way you should go.
18 UEB If only you had obeyed my commandments! Then your peace and prosperity would have flowed like a river, and your salvation like the waves of the sea. BSB BSB: If only you had paid attention to My commandments, your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like waves of the sea.
19 UEB Your descendants would have been as numerous as the sand, and the children from your womb as numerous as the grains of sand; their name would not have been cut off nor blotted out from before me. BSB BSB: Your descendants would have been as countless as the sand, and your offspring as numerous as its grains; their name would never be cut off or eliminated from My presence.”
20 UEB Come out from Babylon! Flee from the Chaldeans! With the sound of a ringing cry announce it! Make this known, make it go out to the ends of the earth! Say, 'Yahweh has redeemed his servant Jacob.' BSB BSB: Leave Babylon! Flee from the Chaldeans! Declare it with a shout of joy, proclaim it, let it go out to the ends of the earth, saying, “The LORD has redeemed His servant Jacob!”
21 UEB They did not thirst when he led them through the deserts; he made the water to flow out of the rock for them; he split open the rock, and the waters gushed out. 22 UEB There is no peace for the wicked—says Yahweh." BSB BSB: “There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked.”
