Isaiah’s Commission (Matthew 13:10–17; Mark 4:10–12; Acts 28:16–31)
UEB Above him were the seraphim; each one had six wings; with two each covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. BSB BSB: Above Him stood seraphim, each having six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.
UEB The foundations of the thresholds shook at the voices of those who were crying out, and the house was filled with smoke. BSB BSB: At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke.
UEB Then one of the seraphim flew to me; he had a glowing coal in his hand, that he had taken with the tongs from off the altar. BSB BSB: Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.
UEB He touched my mouth with it and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt has been taken away, and your sin atoned for." BSB BSB: And with it he touched my mouth and said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is atoned for.”
UEB I heard the voice of the Lord say, "Whom shall I send; who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here I am; send me." BSB BSB: Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” And I said: “Here am I. Send me!”
UEB He said, "Go and tell this people, 'Listen, but do not understand; see, but do not perceive.' BSB BSB: And He replied: “Go and tell this people, ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
UEB Make the heart of this people insensitive, and their ears dull, and blind their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and then turn and be healed." BSB BSB: Make the hearts of this people calloused; deafen their ears and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”
UEB Then I said, "Lord, how long?" He answered, "Until cities crash into ruins and are without inhabitants, and the houses are without people, and the land falls into a desolate waste, BSB BSB: Then I asked: “How long, O Lord?” And He replied: “Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left unoccupied and the land is desolate and ravaged,
UEB and until Yahweh has sent the people far away, and the solitude of the land is great. BSB BSB: until the LORD has driven men far away and the land is utterly forsaken.
UEB Even if a tenth of the people remain in it, it will again be destroyed; as a terebinth or an oak is cut down and whose trunk remains, the holy seed is in its stump." BSB BSB: And though a tenth remains in the land, it will be burned again. As the terebinth and oak leave stumps when felled, so the holy seed will be a stump in the land.”
