The Excellence of the Restored Nation 1 UEB Then the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut within the courtyard of the guard, saying, BSB BSB: While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him a second time:
2 UEB "Yahweh the maker, says this—Yahweh, who forms in order to establish—Yahweh is his name, BSB BSB: “Thus says the LORD who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it, the LORD is His name:
3 UEB 'Call to me, and I will answer you. I will demonstrate great things to you, mysteries that you do not understand.' BSB BSB: Call to Me, and I will answer and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
4 UEB For Yahweh, God of Israel, says this concerning the houses in this city and the houses of the kings of Judah that are torn down because of the siege ramps and the sword, BSB BSB: For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses of this city and the palaces of the kings of Judah that have been torn down for defense against the siege ramps and the sword:
5 UEB 'The Chaldeans are coming to fight and to fill the houses with corpses of people whom I will kill in my wrath and fury, when I hide my face from this city because of all their wickedness. BSB BSB: The Chaldeans are coming to fight and to fill those places with the corpses of the men I will strike down in My anger and in My wrath. I have hidden My face from this city because of all its wickedness.
6 UEB But see, I am about to bring healing and a cure, for I will heal them and will bring to them abundance, peace, and faithfulness. BSB BSB: Nevertheless, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal its people and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.
7 UEB For I will bring back the fortunes of Judah and Israel; I will build them up as in the beginning. BSB BSB: I will restore Judah and Israel from captivity and will rebuild them as in former times.
8 UEB Then I will purify them from all the iniquity that they have committed against me. I will pardon all the iniquities that they have done against me, and all the ways that they rebelled against me. BSB BSB: And I will cleanse them from all the iniquity they have committed against Me, and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against Me.
9 UEB For this city will become for me an object of joy, a song of praise and honor for all the nations of the earth who will hear of all the good things that I am going to do for it. Then they will fear and tremble because of all the good things and the peace that I will give to it.' BSB BSB: So this city will bring Me renown, joy, praise, and glory before all the nations of the earth, who will hear of all the good I do for it. They will tremble in awe because of all the goodness and prosperity that I will provide for it.
10 UEB Yahweh says this, 'In this place about which you are now saying, "It is desolate, a place with neither man nor beast," in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate having neither man nor beast, there will be heard again BSB BSB: This is what the LORD says: In this place you say is a wasteland without man or beast, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted—inhabited by neither man nor beast—there will be heard again
11 UEB the sound of joy and the sound of gladness, the sound of the groom and the sound of the bride, the sound of those who say, while they bring thank offerings to the house of Yahweh, "Give thanks to Yahweh of hosts, for Yahweh is good, and his unfailing love lasts forever!" For I will restore the fortunes of the land to what they were before,' says Yahweh. BSB BSB: the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of the bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those bringing thank offerings into the house of the LORD, saying: ‘Give thanks to the LORD of Hosts, for the LORD is good; His loving devotion endures forever.’ For I will restore the land from captivity as in former times, says the LORD.
12 UEB Yahweh of hosts says this: 'In this desolate place, where now there is neither man nor beast—in all its cities there will again be pastures where shepherds can rest their flocks. BSB BSB: This is what the LORD of Hosts says: In this desolate place, without man or beast, and in all its cities, there will once more be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks.
13 UEB In the cities in the hill country, the lowlands, and the Negev,in the land of Benjamin and all around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the flocks will again pass under the hands of the ones counting them,' says Yahweh. BSB BSB: In the cities of the hill country, the foothills, and the Negev, in the land of Benjamin and the cities surrounding Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the flocks will again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says the LORD.
The Covenant with David 14 UEB 'Look! Days are coming—this is Yahweh's declaration—when I will do what I have promised for the house of Israel and the house of Judah. BSB BSB: Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will fulfill the gracious promise that I have spoken to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
15 UEB In those days and in that time I will make a righteous branch to grow for David, and he will carry out justice and righteousness in the land. BSB BSB: In those days and at that time I will cause to sprout for David a righteous Branch, and He will administer justice and righteousness in the land.
16 UEB In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will live in security, for this is what she will be called, "Yahweh is our righteousness."' BSB BSB: In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely, and this is the name by which it will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.
17 UEB For Yahweh says this: 'A man from David's line will never be lacking to sit on the throne of the house of Israel, BSB BSB: For this is what the LORD says: David will never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel,
18 UEB nor will a man from the Levitical priests be lacking before me to raise burnt offerings, to burn food offerings, and to perform grain offerings all the time.'" BSB BSB: nor will the priests who are Levites ever fail to have a man before Me to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to present sacrifices.”
19 UEB The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying, BSB BSB: And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
20 UEB "Yahweh says this: 'If you can break my covenant with day and night so that there will no longer be day or night at their proper times, BSB BSB: “This is what the LORD says: If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that day and night cease to occupy their appointed time,
21 UEB then you will be able to break my covenant with David my servant, so that he will no longer have a son to sit on his throne, and my covenant with the Levitical priests, my servants. BSB BSB: then My covenant may also be broken with David My servant and with My ministers the Levites who are priests, so that David will not have a son to reign on his throne.
22 UEB As the hosts of heaven cannot be counted, and as the sand of the seashores cannot be measured, so I will increase the descendants of David my servant and the Levites who serve before me.'" BSB BSB: As the hosts of heaven cannot be counted and as the sand on the seashore cannot be measured, so too will I multiply the descendants of My servant David and the Levites who minister before Me.”
23 UEB The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying, BSB BSB: Moreover, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
24 UEB "Have you not considered what this people has declared when they said, 'The two families that Yahweh chose, now he has rejected them'? In this way they despise my people, saying that they are no longer a nation in their sight. BSB BSB: “Have you not noticed what these people are saying: ‘The LORD has rejected the two families He had chosen’? So they despise My people and no longer regard them as a nation.
26 UEB then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant, and not bring from them a person to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and show mercy to them.'" BSB BSB: then I would also reject the descendants of Jacob and of My servant David, so as not to take from his descendants rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore them from captivity and will have compassion on them.”
