In My Father’s House Are Many Rooms 2 UEB In the house of my Father are many rooms. If it were not so, I would have told you, for I am going to prepare a place for you. BSB BSB: In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
3 UEB If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, so that where I am you will also be. BSB BSB: And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.
4 UEB You know the way to where I am going." BSB BSB: You know the way to the place where I am going.”
The Way, the Truth, and the Life 5 UEB Thomas said to Jesus, "Lord, we do not know where you are going, how can we know the way?" BSB BSB: “Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”
7 UEB If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you know him and have seen him." BSB BSB: If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”
8 UEB Philip said to Jesus, "Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us." BSB BSB: Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
10 UEB Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak from my own authority, but the Father living in me is doing his work. BSB BSB: Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works.
11 UEB Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, or else believe because of the works themselves. BSB BSB: Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me—or at least believe on account of the works themselves.
12 UEB Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will do the works that I do, and he will do greater works than these because I am going to the Father. BSB BSB: Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 UEB Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father will be glorified in the Son. BSB BSB: And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 UEB If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. BSB BSB: If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit (John 16:5–16)
17 UEB the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive him because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. BSB BSB: the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.
18 UEB I will not leave you alone; I will come back to you. BSB BSB: I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 UEB Yet a short amount of time and the world will no longer see me, but you see me. Because I live, you will also live. BSB BSB: In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.
20 UEB On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and that you are in me, and that I am in you. BSB BSB: On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.
21 UEB He who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me, and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and I will show myself to him." BSB BSB: Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”
22 UEB Judas (not Iscariot) said to Jesus, "Lord, why is it that you will show yourself to us and not to the world?" BSB BSB: Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”
24 UEB He who does not love me does not keep my words. The word that you hear is not from me but from the Father who sent me. BSB BSB: Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.
25 UEB I have said these things to you, while I am staying with you. BSB BSB: All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
Peace I Leave with You 29 UEB Now I have told you before it happens so that, when it happens, you will believe. BSB BSB: And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
30 UEB I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me, BSB BSB: I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.
31 UEB but in order that the world will know that I love the Father, I do just as the Father commanded me. Let us get up and go from here." BSB BSB: But I do exactly what the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us go on from here.
