Ephraim’s Inheritance 1 UEB The assignment of land for the tribe of Joseph extended from the Jordan at Jericho, east of the springs of Jericho, into the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill country of Bethel. BSB BSB: The allotment for the descendants of Joseph extended from the Jordan at Jericho to the waters of Jericho on the east, through the wilderness that goes up from Jericho into the hill country of Bethel.
2 UEB Then it went from Bethel to Luz and passed along to Ataroth, the territory of the Arkites. BSB BSB: It went on from Bethel (that is, Luz) and proceeded to the border of the Archites in Ataroth.
3 UEB Then it went down westward to the territory of the Japhletites, as far as the territory of Lower Beth Horon, and then on to Gezer; it ended at the sea. BSB BSB: Then it descended westward to the border of the Japhletites as far as the border of Lower Beth-horon and on to Gezer, and it ended at the Sea.
4 UEB It was in this way that the tribes of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim received their inheritance. BSB BSB: So Ephraim and Manasseh, the sons of Joseph, received their inheritance.
5 UEB The territory of the tribe of Ephraim, clan by clan: The border of their inheritance on the east went from Ataroth Addar as far as Upper Beth Horon, BSB BSB: This was the territory of the descendants of Ephraim by their clans: The border of their inheritance went from Ataroth-addar in the east to Upper Beth-horon
6 UEB and from there it continued to the sea. From Mikmethath on the north it turned eastward toward Taanath Shiloh and passed beyond it on the east to Janoah. BSB BSB: and out toward the Sea. 7 UEB Then it went down from Janoah to Ataroth and to Naarah, and then reached Jericho, ending at the Jordan. BSB BSB: From Janoah it went down to Ataroth and Naarah, and then reached Jericho and came out at the Jordan.
8 UEB From Tappuah the border went westward to the brook of Kanah and ended at the sea. This was the inheritance of the tribe of Ephraim, clan by clan, BSB BSB: From Tappuah the border went westward to the Brook of Kanah and ended at the Sea. This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Ephraim,
9 UEB together with the cities that were chosen for the tribe of Ephraim within the inheritance of the tribe of Manasseh—all the cities, including their villages. BSB BSB: along with all the cities and villages set apart for the descendants of Ephraim within the inheritance of Manasseh.
10 UEB They did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so that the Canaanites live within Ephraim to this day, but these people were made to do forced labor. BSB BSB: But they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer. So the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to this day, but they are forced laborers.
