Judging Others (Luke 6:37–42; Romans 14:1–12)
UEB For with the judgment you judge, you will be judged, and with the measure that you measure, it will be measured out to you. BSB BSB: For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
UEB Why do you look at the tiny piece of straw that is in your brother's eye, but you do not notice the log that is in your own eye? BSB BSB: Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?
UEB How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take out the piece of straw that is in your eye,' while the log is in your own eye? BSB BSB: How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while there is still a beam in your own eye?
UEB You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the piece of straw that is in your brother's eye. BSB BSB: You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
UEB Do not give what is holy to the dogs, and do not throw your pearls in front of the hogs. Otherwise they may trample them underfoot, and then turn and tear you to pieces. BSB BSB: Do not give dogs what is holy; do not throw your pearls before swine. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.
Ask, Seek, Knock (Luke 11:5–13)
UEB Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you. BSB BSB: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
UEB For everyone who asks, receives; everyone who seeks, finds; and to the person who knocks, it will be opened. BSB BSB: For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
UEB Or which one of you, if his son asks for a loaf of bread, will give him a stone? BSB BSB: Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
UEB Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? BSB BSB: Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
UEB Therefore, if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him? BSB BSB: So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
UEB Therefore, whatever things you want people to do to you, you should also do to them, for this is the law and the prophets. BSB BSB: In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.
The Narrow Gate (Luke 13:22–30)
UEB Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many people who go through it. BSB BSB: Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
UEB But the gate is narrow and the way is difficult that leads to life, and there are few who find it. BSB BSB: But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.
A Tree and Its Fruit (Luke 6:43–45)
UEB Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but are truly ravenous wolves. BSB BSB: Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
UEB In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but the bad tree produces bad fruit. BSB BSB: Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
UEB A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. BSB BSB: A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
UEB Every tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. BSB BSB: Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
UEB So then, you will recognize them by their fruits. BSB BSB: So then, by their fruit you will recognize them.
UEB Many people will say to me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, in your name drive out demons, and in your name do many mighty deeds?' BSB BSB: Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
UEB Then will I openly declare to them, 'I never knew you! Get away from me, you evildoers!' BSB BSB: Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’
The House on the Rock (Luke 6:46–49)
UEB Therefore, everyone who hears my words and obeys them will be like a wise man who built his house upon a rock. BSB BSB: Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
UEB The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall down, for it was built on the rock. BSB BSB: The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock.
UEB But everyone who hears my words and does not obey them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand. BSB BSB: But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
UEB The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and struck that house, and it fell, and its destruction was complete." BSB BSB: The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its collapse!”
The Authority of Jesus 28 UEB It came about that when Jesus finished speaking these words, the crowds were astonished by his teaching, BSB BSB: When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astonished at His teaching,
UEB for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. BSB BSB: because He taught as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
