Redeem Us, O God (Romans 8:35–39)
UEB We have heard with our ears, God, our fathers have told us what work you did in their days, in the days of old. BSB BSB: For the choirmaster. A Maskil of the sons of Korah. We have heard with our ears, O God; our fathers have told us the work You did in their days, in the days of old.
UEB You drove out the nations with your hand, but you planted our people; you afflicted the peoples, but you spread our people out in the land. BSB BSB: With Your hand You drove out the nations and planted our fathers there; You crushed the peoples and cast them out.
UEB For they did not obtain the land for their possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them; but your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, because you were favorable to them. BSB BSB: For it was not by their sword that they took the land; their arm did not bring them victory. It was by Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your face, because You favored them.
UEB God, You are my King; command victory for Jacob. BSB BSB: You are my King, O God, who ordains victories for Jacob.
UEB Through you we will push down our adversaries; through your name we will tread them under, those who rise up against us. BSB BSB: Through You we repel our foes; through Your name we trample our enemies.
UEB For I will not trust in my bow, neither will my sword save me. BSB BSB: For I do not trust in my bow, nor does my sword save me.
UEB But you have saved us from our adversaries, and have put to shame those who hate us. BSB BSB: For You save us from our enemies; You put those who hate us to shame.
UEB In God we have made our boast all the day long, and we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah BSB BSB: In God we have boasted all day long, and Your name we will praise forever. Selah
UEB But now you have thrown us off and brought us dishonor, and you do not go out with our armies. BSB BSB: But You have rejected and humbled us; You no longer go forth with our armies.
UEB You make us turn back from the adversary; and those who hate us take spoil for themselves. BSB BSB: You have made us retreat from the foe, and those who hate us have plundered us.
UEB You have made us like sheep to be slaughtered and have scattered us among the nations. BSB BSB: You have given us up as sheep to be devoured; You have scattered us among the nations.
UEB You sell your people for nothing; you have not increased your wealth by doing so. BSB BSB: You sell Your people for nothing; no profit do You gain from their sale.
UEB You make us a rebuke to our neighbors, scoffed and mocked by those around us. BSB BSB: You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, a mockery and derision to those around us.
UEB You make us an insult among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples. BSB BSB: You have made us a byword among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples.
UEB All the day long my dishonor is before me, and the shame of my face has covered me BSB BSB: All day long my disgrace is before me, and shame has covered my face,
UEB because of the voice of him who rebukes and insults, because of the enemy and the avenger. BSB BSB: at the voice of the scorner and reviler, because of the enemy, bent on revenge.
UEB All this has come on us; yet we have not forgotten you or dealt falsely with your covenant. BSB BSB: All this has come upon us, though we have not forgotten You or betrayed Your covenant.
UEB Our heart has not turned back; our steps have not gone from your way. BSB BSB: Our hearts have not turned back; our steps have not strayed from Your path.
UEB Yet you have severely broken us in the place of jackals and covered us with the shadow of death. BSB BSB: But You have crushed us in the lair of jackals; You have covered us with deepest darkness.
UEB If we have forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a strange god, BSB BSB: If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god,
UEB would not God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart. BSB BSB: would not God have discovered, since He knows the secrets of the heart?
UEB Indeed, for your sake we are being killed all day long; we are considered to be sheep for the slaughter. BSB BSB: Yet for Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
UEB Awake, why do you sleep, Lord? Arise, do not throw us off permanently. BSB BSB: Wake up, O Lord! Why are You sleeping? Arise! Do not reject us forever.
UEB Why do you hide your face and forget our affliction and our oppression? BSB BSB: Why do You hide Your face and forget our affliction and oppression?
UEB For we have melted away into the dust; our bodies cling to the earth. BSB BSB: For our soul has sunk to the dust; our bodies cling to the earth.
UEB Rise up for our help and redeem us for the sake of your covenant faithfulness. BSB BSB: Rise up; be our help! Redeem us on account of Your loving devotion.
