UEB Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings. We know that suffering produces endurance. BSB BSB: Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
UEB Endurance produces character, and character produces certain hope, BSB BSB: perseverance, character; and character, hope.
UEB and that hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. BSB BSB: And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.
Christ’s Sacrifice for the Ungodly (John 3:1–21)
UEB For one will hardly die for a righteous man. That is, perhaps someone would dare to die for a good person. BSB BSB: Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
UEB But God proves his own love toward us, because while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. BSB BSB: But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
UEB Much more, then, now that we are justified by his blood, we will be saved by it from the wrath of God. BSB BSB: Therefore, since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from wrath through Him!
UEB For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, after having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. BSB BSB: For if, when we were enemies of God, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!
UEB Not only this, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we now have received this reconciliation. BSB BSB: Not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Death in Adam, Life in Christ (Genesis 3:1–7)
UEB For until the law, sin was in the world, but there is no accounting for sin when there is no law. BSB BSB: For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law.
UEB Nevertheless, death ruled from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin like Adam's disobedience, who is a pattern of him who was to come. BSB BSB: Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin in the way that Adam transgressed. He is a pattern of the One to come.
UEB But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the trespass of one the many died, how much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound for the many! BSB BSB: But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many!
UEB For the gift is not like the outcome of that one man's sin. The judgment followed one trespass and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. BSB BSB: Again, the gift is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment that followed one sin brought condemnation, but the gift that followed many trespasses brought justification.
UEB For if, by the trespass of the one, death ruled through the one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
UEB For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one will the many be made righteous. BSB BSB: For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
UEB This happened so that, as sin ruled in death, even so grace might rule through righteousness for everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord. BSB BSB: so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
