Walking by the Spirit (Ezekiel 36:16–38; Galatians 5:16–26)
UEB There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. BSB BSB: Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
UEB For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. BSB BSB: For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death.
UEB For what the law was unable to do because it was weak through the flesh, God did. He sent his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be an offering for sin, and he condemned sin in the flesh. BSB BSB: For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh,
UEB He did this in order that the requirements of the law might be fulfilled in us, we who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. BSB BSB: so that the righteous standard of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
UEB Those who live according to the flesh pay attention to the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit pay attention to the things of the Spirit. BSB BSB: Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
UEB For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. BSB BSB: The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace,
UEB The mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God, for it is not subject to God's law, nor is it able to do so. BSB BSB: because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
UEB Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. BSB BSB: Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God.
UEB If Christ is in you, the body is dead with respect to sin, but the spirit is alive with respect to righteousness. BSB BSB: But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
UEB If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. BSB BSB: And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.
Heirs with Christ 12 UEB So then, brothers, we are debtors, but not to the flesh to live according to the flesh. BSB BSB: Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation, but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.
UEB For if you live according to the flesh, you are about to die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the body's actions, you will live. BSB BSB: For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
UEB For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. BSB BSB: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
UEB If we are children, then we are also heirs, heirs of God. And we are joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. BSB BSB: And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.
Future Glory (2 Corinthians 5:1–10)
UEB that the creation itself will be delivered from slavery to decay, and that it will be brought into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. BSB BSB: that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
UEB For we know that the whole creation groans and labors in pain together even now. BSB BSB: We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time.
UEB Not only that, but even we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit—even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for our adoption, the redemption of our body. BSB BSB: Not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
UEB For in this certain hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he can see? BSB BSB: For in this hope we were saved; but hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he can already see?
UEB But if we have certain hope about what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. BSB BSB: But if we hope for what we do not yet see, we wait for it patiently.
UEB In the same way, the Spirit also helps in our weakness. For we do not know how we should pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groans. BSB BSB: In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.
UEB He who searches the hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because he intercedes on behalf of the saints according to the will of God. BSB BSB: And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
God Works in All Things (Ephesians 1:3–14)
UEB We know that for those who love God, he works all things together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. BSB BSB: And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.
UEB Because those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. BSB BSB: For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers.
UEB Those whom he predestined, these he also called. Those whom he called, these he also justified. Those whom he justified, these he also glorified. BSB BSB: And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.
UEB Who will bring any accusation against God's chosen ones? God is the one who justifies. BSB BSB: Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
UEB Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, and who also is interceding for us. BSB BSB: Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God—and He is interceding for us.
More than Conquerors (Psalm 44:1–26)
UEB Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or hunger, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? BSB BSB: Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
UEB Just as it is written, "For your benefit we are killed all day long. We were considered as sheep for the slaughter." BSB BSB: As it is written: “For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
UEB In all these things we are more than conquerors through the one who loved us. BSB BSB: No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
UEB For I have been convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor governments, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, BSB BSB: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 UEB nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. BSB BSB: neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
