The LORD’s Response to Solomon (2 Chronicles 7:11–22)
ULT And it happened, when Solomon finished building the house of Yahweh and the house of the king and all of the desire of Solomon that he delighted to do, BSB BSB: Now when Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and had achieved all that he had desired to do,
ULT that Yahweh appeared to Solomon a second time, just as he had appeared to him at Gibeon. BSB BSB: the LORD appeared to him a second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon.
ULT And Yahweh said to him,“I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you supplicated to my face. I have consecrated this house that you have built, to put my name there to forever. And my eyes and my heart will be there all of the days. BSB BSB: And the LORD said to him: “I have heard your prayer and petition before Me. I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting My Name there forever; My eyes and My heart will be there for all time.
ULT And you, if you walk to my face just as David your father walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you,{ if} you keep my statutes and my judgments, BSB BSB: And as for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, with a heart of integrity and uprightness, doing all I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and ordinances,
ULT then I will raise up the throne of your kingdom over Israel to forever, just as I spoke to David your father, saying,‘A man to you will not be cut off from upon the throne of Israel.’ BSB BSB: then I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.’
ULT If turning, you turn, you or your sons, from after me, and you do not keep my commandments, my statutes that I have set to your faces, and you go and serve other gods and prostrate yourselves to them, BSB BSB: But if indeed you or your sons turn away from following Me and do not keep the commandments and statutes I have set before you, and if you go off to serve and worship other gods,
ULT then I will cut off Israel from upon the face of the ground that I have given to them, and the house that I have consecrated for my name, I will send away from before my face, and Israel will be for a proverb and for a taunt among all of the peoples. BSB BSB: then I will cut off Israel from the land that I have given them, and I will banish from My presence this temple I have sanctified for My Name. Then Israel will become an object of scorn and ridicule among all peoples.
ULT And this house{ that} is exalted, everyone passing by it will be appalled and will hiss. And they will say,‘Why did Yahweh do thus to this land and to this house?’ BSB BSB: And when this temple has become a heap of rubble, all who pass by it will be appalled and will hiss and say, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’
ULT And they will say,‘Because they forsook Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out from the land of Egypt, and they held onto other gods and prostrated themselves to them and served them. Therefore Yahweh brought upon them all of this harm.’” BSB BSB: And others will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the LORD their God who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, the LORD has brought all this disaster upon them.’”
