The Light of the Gospel 1 ULT Therefore, having this ministry, just as we received mercy, we do not become discouraged. BSB BSB: Therefore, since God in His mercy has given us this ministry, we do not lose heart.
2 ULT Instead, we have rejected the shameful hidden things, not walking in craftiness, nor distorting the word of God, but by the manifestation of the truth, commending ourselves to every man’ s conscience before God. BSB BSB: Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful ways. We do not practice deceit, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by open proclamation of the truth, we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
3 ULT But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to the ones perishing, BSB BSB: And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.
4 ULT to whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, does not appear{ to them}. BSB BSB: The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
5 ULT For we do not proclaim ourselves, but the Lord Christ Jesus, and ourselves{ as} your servants for Jesus’ sake. BSB BSB: For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6 ULT For God{ is} the one who said,“From darkness a light will shine,” who shined in our hearts for the illumination of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Treasure in Jars of Clay (Romans 6:1–14)
7 ULT But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that the surpassing greatness of the power might be from God and not from us; BSB BSB: Now we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this surpassingly great power is from God and not from us.
8 ULT in every{ side} being pressed in, but not being crushed; being perplexed, but not despairing; BSB BSB: We are hard pressed on all sides, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;
9 ULT being persecuted, but not being forsaken; being thrown down, but not perishing; BSB BSB: persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.
10 ULT always carrying around in the body the dying of Jesus so that the life of Jesus also might be revealed in our body; BSB BSB: We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
11 ULT for we being alive are always being handed over to death for the sake of Jesus so that also the life of Jesus might be revealed in our mortal flesh. BSB BSB: For we who are alive are always consigned to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our mortal body.
12 ULT So then, death works in us, but life in you. BSB BSB: So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.
13 ULT But having the same spirit of the faith according to{ what} has been written:“I believed; therefore I spoke,” we also believe; therefore we also speak, BSB BSB: And in keeping with what is written, “I believed, therefore I have spoken,” we who have the same spirit of faith also believe and therefore speak,
14 ULT knowing that the one having raised Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and will present{ us} with you. BSB BSB: knowing that the One who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in His presence.
15 ULT For all these{ things are} for your sake so that the grace, having increased through more and more{ people}, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. BSB BSB: All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is extending to more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow, to the glory of God.
16 ULT So we do not become discouraged. Rather, even if our outer man is decaying, yet our inner{ man} is being renewed day{ by} day. BSB BSB: Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day.
17 ULT For our momentary, light affliction is producing in us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison. BSB BSB: For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory that is far beyond comparison.
18 ULT We are not watching the things being seen, but the things not being seen. For the things being seen{ are} temporary, but the things not being seen{ are} eternal. BSB BSB: So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
