Request for Prayer 1 ULT Finally, brothers, pray for us so that the word of the Lord might run and might be glorified, just as also with you, BSB BSB: Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread quickly and be held in honor, just as it was with you.
ULT and so that we might be rescued from the perverse and evil men, for not everyone{ has} the faith. BSB BSB: And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not everyone holds to the faith.
ULT But the Lord is faithful, who will strengthen and keep you from the evil one. BSB BSB: But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.
ULT We are also confident in the Lord about you that you are doing and will do what we command. BSB BSB: And we have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do what we command.
ULT Now may the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the endurance of Christ. BSB BSB: May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.
A Warning against Idleness 6 ULT Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, for you to keep away from every brother walking disorderly and not according to the traditions which you received from us. BSB BSB: Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who leads an undisciplined life that is not in keeping with the tradition you received from us.
ULT For you yourselves know in what manner it is necessary to imitate us, because we did not behave disorderly among you, BSB BSB: For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not undisciplined among you,
ULT nor did we eat bread from anyone for free, but, working night and day in toil and hardship not to burden any of you, BSB BSB: nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
ULT not because we do not have authority, but in order that we might offer ourselves{ as} an example to you to imitate us. BSB BSB: Not that we lack this right, but we wanted to offer ourselves as an example for you to imitate.
ULT For even when we were with you, we were commanding you this,“If anyone is not willing to work, do not even let him eat.” BSB BSB: For even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “If anyone is unwilling to work, he shall not eat.”
ULT For we hear about some walking idly among you, not working, but meddling. BSB BSB: For we hear that some of you are leading undisciplined lives, accomplishing nothing, but being busybodies.
ULT But such ones we are commanding and exhorting in the Lord Jesus Christ, that working with quietness, they might eat their own bread. BSB BSB: We command and urge such people by our Lord Jesus Christ to begin working quietly to earn their own living.
ULT But you, brothers, do not become weary in doing what is right. BSB BSB: But as for you, brothers, do not grow weary in well-doing.
ULT Now if anyone does not obey our word through the letter, note this one— not to associate with him, so that he may be put to shame. BSB BSB: Take note of anyone who does not obey the instructions we have given in this letter. Do not associate with him, so that he may be ashamed.
ULT And do not consider{ him} as an enemy, but warn him as a brother. BSB BSB: Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
