Daniel’s Vision of the Four Beasts (Revelation 13:1–10)
2 ULT Daniel answered and was saying,“I was looking in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of the heavens were stirring up the Great Sea. BSB BSB: Daniel declared: “In my vision in the night I looked, and suddenly the four winds of heaven were churning up the great sea.
3 ULT And four great beasts were coming up from the sea, this being different from this. BSB BSB: Then four great beasts came up out of the sea, each one different from the others:
4 ULT The first{ was} like a lion, but the wings of an eagle{ were} to it. I was looking until that its wings were pulled off, and it was raised from the ground, and on two feet it was stood like a man, and the heart of a man was given to it. BSB BSB: The first beast was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a man and given the mind of a man.
5 ULT And behold, another beast, a second, resembling a bear. And on one side, it was raised up. And three ribs{ were} in its mouth between its teeth, and thus they were saying to it,‘Arise, devour much flesh.’ BSB BSB: Suddenly another beast appeared, which looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. So it was told, ‘Get up and gorge yourself on flesh!’
6 ULT After this I was looking, and behold, another, like a leopard, and to it{ were} the four wings of a bird upon its back. And four heads{ were} to the beast, and dominion was given to it. BSB BSB: Next, as I watched, suddenly another beast appeared. It was like a leopard, and on its back it had four wings like those of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and it was given authority to rule.
7 ULT After this I was looking in visions of the night, and behold, a fourth beast, making afraid and terrible and exceedingly strong. And great teeth of iron{ were} to it. It devoured and crushed, and it was trampling the rest with its feet. And it was being different from all of the beasts that{ were} before it, and ten horns(were) to it. BSB BSB: After this, as I watched in my vision in the night, suddenly a fourth beast appeared, and it was terrifying—dreadful and extremely strong—with large iron teeth. It devoured and crushed; then it trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the beasts before it, and it had ten horns.
8 ULT I was considering the horns, and behold, another horn, little, was coming up among them, and three of the first horns were uprooted from before it. And behold, eyes like the eyes of a man{ were} in this horn, and a mouth speaking great{ things}. BSB BSB: While I was contemplating the horns, suddenly another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like those of a man and a mouth that spoke words of arrogance.
Daniel’s Vision of the Ancient of Days 9 ULT I was looking until that thrones were set, and the Ancient of Days sat down. His clothing{ was} white as snow, and the hair of his head{ was} like pure wool. His throne{ was} flames of fire; its wheels{ were} burning fire. BSB BSB: As I continued to watch, thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took His seat. His clothing was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze.
10 ULT A river of fire was flowing and coming out from before him; a thousand of thousands served him, and a myriad of myriads stood before him. The court sat, and books were opened. BSB BSB: A river of fire was flowing, coming out from His presence. Thousands upon thousands attended Him, and myriads upon myriads stood before Him. The court was convened, and the books were opened.
11 ULT I was looking then from the sound of the great words that the horn was speaking. I was looking until that the beast was killed and its body was destroyed and it was given to the burning fire. BSB BSB: Then I kept watching because of the arrogant words the horn was speaking. As I continued to watch, the beast was slain, and its body was destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire.
12 ULT And the rest of the beasts, they took away their dominion, but a prolonging in life was given to them for a season and a time. BSB BSB: As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was removed, but they were granted an extension of life for a season and a time.
Daniel’s Vision of the Son of Man 14 ULT And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion{ is} a dominion of eternity that will not pass away, and his kingdom{ is one} that will not be destroyed. BSB BSB: And He was given dominion, glory, and kingship, that the people of every nation and language should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and His kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
Daniel’s Visions Interpreted 15 ULT My spirit was distressed, I, Daniel, in the midst of the body, and the visions of my head were alarming me. BSB BSB: I, Daniel, was grieved in my spirit, and the visions in my mind alarmed me.
16 ULT I approached to one of the ones standing, and I sought from him the truth about all of this. And he told me, and he made me know the interpretation of the matters. BSB BSB: I approached one of those who were standing there, and I asked him the true meaning of all this. So he told me the interpretation of these things:
17 ULT ‘These great beasts, which are four,{ are} four kings arising from the earth. BSB BSB: ‘These four great beasts are four kings who will arise from the earth.
18 ULT But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom, and they will possess the kingdom to eternity and to eternity of eternities.’ BSB BSB: But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom and possess it forever—yes, forever and ever.’
19 ULT Then I wished to be certain about the fourth beast, which was being different from all of them, making afraid exceedingly, its teeth of iron and its claws of bronze, devouring, crushing, and trampling the rest with its feet, BSB BSB: Then I wanted to know the true meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others—extremely terrifying—devouring and crushing with iron teeth and bronze claws, then trampling underfoot whatever was left.
20 ULT and about the ten horns that{ were} on its head and the other that came up and three fell from before it, even that horn that eyes{ were} to it and a mouth speaking great{ things} and its appearance{ was} greater than its fellows. BSB BSB: I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell—the horn whose appearance was more imposing than the others, with eyes and with a mouth that spoke words of arrogance.
21 ULT I was looking, and this horn was making war with the saints, and it was prevailing against them, BSB BSB: As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and prevailing against them,
22 ULT until that the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given for the saints of the Most High. And the time came, and the saints possessed the kingdom. BSB BSB: until the Ancient of Days arrived and pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for them to possess the kingdom.
23 ULT Thus he was saying,‘The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all of the kingdoms. And it will devour all of the earth, and it will trample it and crush it. BSB BSB: This is what he said: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on the earth, different from all the other kingdoms, and it will devour the whole earth, trample it down, and crush it.
24 ULT And the ten horns, from this kingdom, ten kings will arise, and another will arise after them. And he will be different from the first{ ones}, and he will humble three kings. BSB BSB: And the ten horns are ten kings who will rise from this kingdom. After them another king, different from the earlier ones, will rise and subdue three kings.
25 ULT And he will speak words against the Most High, and he will wear out the saints of the Most High. And he will intend to change the times and the law. And they will be given into his hand for a time and times and half of a time. BSB BSB: He will speak out against the Most High and oppress the saints of the Most High, intending to change the appointed times and laws; and the saints will be given into his hand for a time, and times, and half a time.
26 ULT But the court will sit, and they will take away his dominion, to consume and destroy{ it} to the end, BSB BSB: But the court will convene, and his dominion will be taken away and completely destroyed forever.
27 ULT and the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under all of the heavens will be given to the people of the saints of the Most High. His kingdom{ will be} a kingdom of eternity, and all dominions will serve and make themselves hear him.’ BSB BSB: Then the sovereignty, dominion, and greatness of the kingdoms under all of heaven will be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will serve and obey Him.’
