The Covenant Sealed 1 ULT And he said to Moses,“Come up to Yahweh— you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy from the elders of Israel, and you shall bow down from a distance. BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses, “Come up to the LORD—you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of Israel’s elders—and you are to worship at a distance.
2 ULT And Moses alone shall come near to Yahweh, and they shall not come near, and the people shall not come up with him.” BSB BSB: Moses alone shall approach the LORD, but the others must not come near. And the people may not go up with him.”
5 ULT He sent the young men of the sons of Israel, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of bulls to Yahweh. BSB BSB: Then he sent out some young men of Israel, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as peace offerings to the LORD.
6 ULT And Moses took half of the blood and put it into basins and sprinkled half of the blood onto the altar. BSB BSB: Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he splattered on the altar.
7 ULT And he took the Book of the Covenant and read it aloud in the ears of the people. And they said,“We will do and hear all that Yahweh has spoken.” BSB BSB: Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people, who replied, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.”
8 ULT And Moses took the blood and sprinkled it onto the people. And he said,“Behold! The blood of the covenant that Yahweh has cut with you according to all of these words.” BSB BSB: So Moses took the blood, splattered it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
9 ULT And Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy from the elders of Israel went up. BSB BSB: Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel,
10 ULT And they saw the God of Israel. And under his feet was like tile made of sapphire, and its substance was as the sky in purity. BSB BSB: and they saw the God of Israel. Under His feet was a work like a pavement made of sapphire, as clear as the sky itself.
11 ULT And he did not send out his hand to the leaders of the sons of Israel. And they saw God, and they ate and drank. BSB BSB: But God did not lay His hand on the nobles of Israel; they saw Him, and they ate and drank.
Moses on the Mountain 12 ULT And Yahweh said to Moses,“Come up to me to the mountain and be there. And I will give you the tablets of stone and the law and the commandments that I have written to teach them.” BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and stay here, so that I may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.”
13 ULT And Moses and his servant Joshua got up, and Moses went up to the mountain of God. BSB BSB: So Moses set out with Joshua his attendant and went up on the mountain of God.
14 ULT And he had said to the elders,“Wait for us in this place until we return to you. And behold! Aaron and Hur are with you; Whoever is a master of words may come near to them.” BSB BSB: And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. Aaron and Hur are here with you. Whoever has a dispute can go to them.”
15 ULT And Moses went up to the mountain, and a cloud covered the mountain. BSB BSB: When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it,
16 ULT And the glory of Yahweh settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day he called to Moses from within the cloud. BSB BSB: and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered it, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud.
17 ULT And the appearance of the glory of Yahweh was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the sons of Israel. BSB BSB: And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the mountaintop in the eyes of the Israelites.
18 ULT And Moses entered the middle of the cloud and went up to the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights. BSB BSB: Moses entered the cloud as he went up on the mountain, and he remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
