God Promises Deliverance 1 ULT And Yahweh said to Moses,“Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: for by a strong hand he will let them go; and by a strong hand he will drive them out of his land.” BSB BSB: But the LORD said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh, for because of My mighty hand he will let the people go; because of My strong hand he will drive them out of his land.”
2 ULT And God spoke to Moses, and said to him,“I am Yahweh BSB BSB: God also told Moses, “I am the LORD.
3 ULT and I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El Shaddai; but by my name Yahweh I was not known to them. BSB BSB: I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by My name the LORD I did not make Myself known to them.
4 ULT And moreover, I established my covenant with them, to give to them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojourning, in which they sojourned. BSB BSB: I also established My covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land where they lived as foreigners.
5 ULT And moreover, I have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant. BSB BSB: Furthermore, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered My covenant.
6 ULT Therefore, say to the sons of Israel,‘I am Yahweh. And I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rescue you from their slavery. And I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. BSB BSB: Therefore tell the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians and deliver you from their bondage. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.
7 ULT And I will take you to myself as a people, and I will be to you as God. And you will know that I am Yahweh your God, the one bringing you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. BSB BSB: I will take you as My own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.
8 ULT And I will bring you to the land that I raised my hand to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. And I will give it to you as a possession. I am Yahweh.’” BSB BSB: And I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD!’”
9 ULT And Moses spoke in this way to the sons of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses, because of shortness of spirit and because of hard slavery. BSB BSB: Moses relayed this message to the Israelites, but on account of their broken spirit and cruel bondage, they did not listen to him.
10 ULT And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: So the LORD said to Moses,
11 ULT “Go speak to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, that he should let the sons of Israel go from his land.” BSB BSB: “Go and tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his land.”
12 ULT And Moses spoke before the face of Yahweh, saying,“Behold, the sons of Israel have not listened to me, so how will Pharaoh listen to me? And I have uncircumcised lips.” BSB BSB: But in the LORD’s presence Moses replied, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, then why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I am unskilled in speech?”
13 ULT And Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and he gave them a command to the sons of Israel and to Pharaoh, king of Egypt: to bring the sons of Israel out from the land of Egypt. BSB BSB: Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them a charge concerning both the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt.
Genealogies of Moses and Aaron 14 ULT These were the heads of the houses of their fathers: The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Karmi. 15 ULT And the sons of Simeon were Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jakin, and Zohar, and Shaul— the son of a Canaanite woman. These were the clans of Simeon. 16 ULT And these are the names of the sons of Levi, from their genealogy: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari. And the years of the life of Levi were 137 years. BSB BSB: These were the names of the sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. Levi lived 137 years.
17 ULT The sons of Gershon were Libni and Shimei, according to their clans. BSB BSB: The sons of Gershon were Libni and Shimei, by their clans.
18 ULT And the sons of Kohath were Amram and Izhar and Hebron and Uzziel. And the years of the life of Kohath were 133 years. BSB BSB: The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years.
19 ULT And the sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites, according to their genealogy. BSB BSB: The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites according to their records.
20 ULT And Amram took Jochebed, his aunt, as a wife for himself. And she bore him Aaron and Moses. And the years of the life of Amram were 137 years. BSB BSB: And Amram married his father’s sister Jochebed, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years.
21 ULT And the sons of Izhar were Korah, and Nepheg, and Zichri. BSB BSB: The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri.
22 ULT And the sons of Uzziel were Mishael, and Elzaphan, and Sithri. BSB BSB: The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.
23 ULT And Aaron took Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab, the sister of Nahshon, as a wife for himself. And she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. BSB BSB: And Aaron married Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
24 ULT And the sons of Korah were Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These were the clans of the Korahites. BSB BSB: The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These were the clans of the Korahites.
25 ULT And Eleazar, son of Aaron took a wife for himself from the daughters of Putiel. And she bore him Phinehas. These were the heads of the fathers of the Levites, according to their clans. BSB BSB: Aaron’s son Eleazar married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas. These were the heads of the Levite families by their clans.
26 ULT It was Aaron and Moses to whom Yahweh said,“Bring out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt by their hosts.” BSB BSB: It was this Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, “Bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.”
27 ULT They were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to bring out the sons of Israel from Egypt. It was Moses and Aaron. BSB BSB: Moses and Aaron were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt in order to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.
28 ULT And it happened on a day that Yahweh spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, BSB BSB: Now on the day that the LORD spoke to Moses in Egypt,
29 ULT and Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,“I am Yahweh. Speak to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, everything that I speak to you.” BSB BSB: He said to him, “I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I say to you.”
30 ULT But Moses said to the face of Yahweh,“Behold, I have uncircumcised lips, so how will Pharaoh listen to me?” BSB BSB: But in the LORD’s presence Moses replied, “Since I am unskilled in speech, why would Pharaoh listen to me?”
