1Now these are the sons of the province, the ones who went up from the captivity of the exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had exiled to Babylon. And they returned to Jerusalem and Judah, a man to his city;Now these are the people of the province who came up from the captivity of the exiles carried away to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar its king. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town,

2who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah. This is the number of the men of the people of Israel.accompanied by Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah. This is the count of the men of Israel:

3The sons of Parosh were 2, 172.the descendants of Parosh, 2,172;

4The sons of Shephatiah were 372.the descendants of Shephatiah, 372;

5The sons of Arah were 775.the descendants of Arah, 775;

6The sons of Pahath- Moab, of the sons of Jeshua and Joab were 2, 812.the descendants of Pahath-moab (through the line of Jeshua and Joab), 2,812;

7The sons of Elam were 1, 254.the descendants of Elam, 1,254;

8The sons of Zattu were 945.the descendants of Zattu, 945;

9The sons of Zakkai were 760.the descendants of Zaccai, 760;

28The men of Bethel and the Ai were 223.the men of Bethel and Ai, 223;

29The sons of Nebo were 52.the descendants of Nebo, 52;

55The sons of the servants of Solomon: the sons of Sotai, the sons of Hassophereth, the sons of Peruda,The descendants of the servants of Solomon: the descendants of Sotai, the descendants of Hassophereth, the descendants of Peruda,

56the sons of Jaalah, the sons of Darkon, the sons of Giddel,the descendants of Jaala, the descendants of Darkon, the descendants of Giddel,

57the sons of Shephatiah, the sons of Hattil, the sons of Pochereth Hazzebaim, and the sons of Ami.the descendants of Shephatiah, the descendants of Hattil, the descendants of Pochereth-hazzebaim, and the descendants of Ami.

58All the temple servants and the sons of the servants of Solomon were 392.The temple servants and descendants of the servants of Solomon numbered 392 in all.

59And these were the ones who went up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Kerub, Addon, and Immer; but they were not able to tell the house of their fathers or their seed, whether they were from Israel.The following came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer, but they could not prove that their families were descended from Israel:

60The sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, and the sons of Nekoda were 652.the descendants of Delaiah, the descendants of Tobiah, and the descendants of Nekoda, 652 in all.

61And from the sons of the priests: the sons of Habaiah; the sons of Hakkoz; and the sons of Barzillai, who took a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, so he was called by their name.And from among the priests: the descendants of Hobaiah, the descendants of Hakkoz, and the descendants of Barzillai (who had married a daughter of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by their name).

62These ones sought their record among the ones who were enrolled by genealogy, but they were not found. And they were desecrated from the priesthood.These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.

63And the Tirshatha said to them that they must not eat from the holiest holy food until a priest stood with Urim and with Thummim.The governor ordered them not to eat the most holy things until there was a priest to consult the Urim and Thummim.

64All the assembly, as one, was 42, 360:The whole assembly numbered 42,360,

65apart from their male servants and their female servants, these were 7, 337; and for them were 200 men who sang and women who sang.in addition to their 7,337 menservants and maidservants, as well as their 200 male and female singers.

66Their horses were 736. Their mules were 245.They had 736 horses, 245 mules,

67Their camels were 435. Their donkeys were 6, 720.435 camels, and 6,720 donkeys.

68And when some from the heads of the fathers came to the house of Yahweh which is in Jerusalem, they freely gave for the house of God to cause it to stand upon its place.When they arrived at the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families gave freewill offerings to rebuild the house of God on its original site.

69They gave according to their ability to the treasury of the work: 61, 000 gold darics, and 5, 000 silver minas, and 100 tunics of the priests.According to their ability, they gave to the treasury for this work 61,000 darics of gold, 5,000 minas of silver, and 100 priestly garments.

70So the priests, and the Levites, and some from the people, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the temple servants dwelt in their cities. So all Israel was in their cities.So the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants, along with some of the people, settled in their own towns; and the rest of the Israelites settled in their towns.
