Freedom in Christ 2 ULT Behold, I, Paul, say to you that if you would be circumcised, Christ will benefit you nothing. BSB BSB: Take notice: I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
3 ULT Now I testify again to every man being circumcised that he is obligated to do the whole law. BSB BSB: Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
4 ULT You were cut off from Christ, whoever is being justified by law; you fell from grace. BSB BSB: You who are trying to be justified by the law have been severed from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
5 ULT For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. BSB BSB: But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the hope of righteousness.
7 ULT You were running well. Who hindered you, not to be persuaded by truth? BSB BSB: You were running so well. Who has obstructed you from obeying the truth?
8 ULT This persuasion{ is} not from the one calling you! BSB BSB: Such persuasion does not come from the One who calls you.
9 ULT A little leaven leavens the whole lump. BSB BSB: A little leaven works through the whole batch of dough.
10 ULT I am confident in you in the Lord that you will think nothing otherwise. But the one troubling you will bear the judgment, whoever he may be. BSB BSB: I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is troubling you will bear the judgment, whoever he may be.
11 ULT But brothers, if I still proclaim circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the stumbling block of the cross has been removed. BSB BSB: Now, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
12 ULT I wish the ones disturbing you will even castrate themselves! BSB BSB: As for those who are agitating you, I wish they would proceed to emasculate themselves!
13 ULT For you have been called to freedom, brothers, only not the freedom for an opportunity for the flesh; rather, through love serve one another. BSB BSB: For you, brothers, were called to freedom; but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather, serve one another in love.
14 ULT For all the law has been fulfilled in one command, in this,“You will love your neighbor as yourself.” BSB BSB: The entire law is fulfilled in a single decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 ULT But if you are biting and devouring one another, watch out that you might not be consumed by one another. BSB BSB: But if you keep on biting and devouring one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another.
Walking by the Spirit (Ezekiel 36:16–38; Romans 8:9–11)
16 ULT Now I say, walk by the Spirit and you would certainly not fulfill desires of the flesh. BSB BSB: So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
17 ULT For the flesh desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. For these oppose each other, so that you are not doing these things that you would desire. BSB BSB: For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want.
18 ULT But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. BSB BSB: But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 ULT Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: sexual immorality, impurity, licentiousness, BSB BSB: The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery;
20 ULT idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, factions, BSB BSB: idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions,
21 ULT envy, drunkenness, drunken celebrations, and things like these, about which I warn you, just as I warned you before, that the ones practicing such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. BSB BSB: and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 ULT But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, BSB BSB: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 ULT gentleness,{ and} self- control; against such things there is no law. BSB BSB: gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24 ULT But the ones of Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with the passions and the desires. BSB BSB: Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 ULT If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. BSB BSB: Since we live by the Spirit, let us walk in step with the Spirit.
26 ULT Let us not become boastful, provoking one another, envying one another. BSB BSB: Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another.
