The Seventh Day (Exodus 16:22–30; Hebrews 4:1–11)
ULT So the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. BSB BSB: Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
ULT And by the seventh day God had completed his work that he had done, so he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. BSB BSB: And by the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on that day He rested from all His work.
ULT And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on it he rested from all his work of creating that God had done. BSB BSB: Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on that day He rested from all the work of creation that He had accomplished.
Man and Woman in the Garden 5 ULT and every shrub of the field had not yet appeared on the earth, and every plant of the field had not yet sprung up, because Yahweh God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to work the ground. BSB BSB: Now no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth, nor had any plant of the field sprouted, for the LORD God had not yet sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.
ULT But mist came up from the earth and watered all of the surface of the ground. BSB BSB: But springs welled up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
ULT Now Yahweh God had planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. BSB BSB: And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, where He placed the man He had formed.
ULT And Yahweh God had made to grow from the ground every tree{ that} is pleasant to the sight and good for food, and the tree of life in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. BSB BSB: Out of the ground the LORD God gave growth to every tree that is pleasing to the eye and good for food. And in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
ULT And a river was going out from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided and became four head{ water} s. BSB BSB: Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it branched into four headwaters:
ULT The name of the first{ is} Pishon. It winds through all of the land of Havilah, where gold{ is}. BSB BSB: The name of the first river is the Pishon; it winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.
ULT And the gold of that land{ is} good. Bdellium and onyx stone{ are} there. BSB BSB: And the gold of that land is pure, and bdellium and onyx are found there.
ULT And the name of the second river{ is} Gihon. It winds through all of the land of Cush. BSB BSB: The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the whole land of Cush.
ULT And the name of the third river{ is} Tigris. It goes east of Asshur. And the fourth river{ is} Euphrates. BSB BSB: The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
ULT And Yahweh God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and tend it. BSB BSB: Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.
ULT but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, because on the day you eat from it you will surely die.” BSB BSB: but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”
ULT And the man gave names to all the livestock and to the bird{ s} of the sky and to every living thing of the field, but for the man a suitable helper was not found. BSB BSB: The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.
ULT So Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall on the man. And{ while} he was sleeping, then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place{ with} flesh. BSB BSB: So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh.
ULT Then Yahweh God built the rib which he had taken from the man into a woman, and he brought her to the man. BSB BSB: And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him.
ULT And the man said,“This{ one} now{ is} bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh! She will be called‘woman,’ because{ it was} from a man{ that} she was taken.” BSB BSB: And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.”
ULT And the man and his wife were both naked, but they were not ashamed. BSB BSB: And the man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed.
