Jesus Appears by the Sea of Tiberias 1 ULT After these things, Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. Now in this manner he showed himself: BSB BSB: Later, by the Sea of Tiberias, Jesus again revealed Himself to the disciples. He made Himself known in this way:
ULT they were together— Simon Peter and Thomas called Didymus and Nathaniel from Cana of Galilee and the{ sons} of Zebedee and two others from his disciples. BSB BSB: Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together.
ULT Simon Peter says to them,“I am going fishing.” They say to him,“We also are coming with you.” They went out and got into a boat, but they caught nothing during that night. BSB BSB: Simon Peter told them, “I am going fishing.” “We will go with you,” they said. So they went out and got into the boat, but caught nothing that night.
ULT Now, when it was already early morning, Jesus stood on the beach, but the disciples did not know that it is Jesus. BSB BSB: Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not recognize that it was Jesus.
ULT Then Jesus says to them,“Children, you do not have any fish to eat, do you?” They answered him,“No.” BSB BSB: So He called out to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” “No,” they answered.
ULT But he said to them,“Throw the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” Therefore, they threw{ the net} and did not have the strength to draw it in, because of the large number of fish. BSB BSB: He told them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it there, and they were unable to haul it in because of the great number of fish.
ULT Then that disciple whom Jesus loved says to Peter,“It is the Lord.” Therefore, Simon Peter, having heard that it was the Lord, put on his outer garment(for he was undressed), and threw himself into the sea. BSB BSB: Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it) and jumped into the sea.
ULT But the other disciples came in the boat(for they were not far from the land, but about 200 cubits away), dragging the net of the fish. BSB BSB: The other disciples came ashore in the boat. They dragged in the net full of fish, for they were not far from land, only about a hundred yards.
ULT Then when they got out upon the land, they see a charcoal fire kindled and a fish laid on it and a bread loaf. BSB BSB: When they landed, they saw a charcoal fire there with fish on it, and some bread.
ULT Jesus says to them,“Bring some of the fish that you just caught.” BSB BSB: Jesus told them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.”
ULT Therefore, Simon Peter went up and pulled the net to the shore, full of large fish; 153. But being so many, the net was not torn. BSB BSB: So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many, the net was not torn.
ULT Jesus says to them,“Come, eat breakfast.” But none of the disciples dared to ask him,“Who are you?” They knew that it is the Lord. BSB BSB: “Come, have breakfast,” Jesus said to them. None of the disciples dared to ask Him, “Who are You?” They knew it was the Lord.
ULT Jesus comes and takes the bread and gives{ it} to them, and the fish in the same way. BSB BSB: Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and He did the same with the fish.
ULT This{ was} already the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples, having been raised from the dead. BSB BSB: This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after He was raised from the dead.
Jesus and Peter 15 ULT Then when they ate breakfast, Jesus says to Simon Peter,“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He says to him,“Yes Lord, you know that I love you.” He says to him,“Feed my lambs.” BSB BSB: When they had finished eating, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love Me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.” Jesus replied, “Feed My lambs.”
ULT He says to him again, a second{ time},“Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He says to him,“Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He says to him,“Take care of my sheep.” BSB BSB: Jesus asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.” Jesus told him, “Shepherd My sheep.”
ULT He says to him the third{ time},“Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third{ time},“Do you love me?” And he says to him,“Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus says to him,“Feed my sheep. BSB BSB: Jesus asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was deeply hurt that Jesus had asked him a third time, “Do you love Me?” “Lord, You know all things,” he replied. “You know I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.
ULT Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to gird yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you become old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry{ you} where you do not want.” BSB BSB: Truly, truly, I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself and walked where you wanted; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 ULT Now he said this, indicating with what manner of death he will glorify God. And having said this, he says to him,“Follow me.” BSB BSB: Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. And after He had said this, He told him, “Follow Me.”
Jesus and the Beloved Disciple 21 ULT Therefore, having seen him, Peter says to Jesus,“But Lord, what about this one?” BSB BSB: When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”
ULT Jesus says to him,“If I want him to remain until I come, what{ is that} to you? You follow me.” BSB BSB: Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain until I return, what is that to you? You follow Me!”
ULT So this word spread among the brothers, that that disciple does not die. But Jesus did not say to him that he does not die, but,“If I want him to remain until I come, what{ is that} to you?” BSB BSB: Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. However, Jesus did not say that he would not die, but only, “If I want him to remain until I return, what is that to you?”
ULT Now there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if each one were written down, I imagine not even the world itself to have enough room for the books being written. BSB BSB: There are many more things that Jesus did. If all of them were written down, I suppose that not even the world itself would have space for the books that would be written.
