The Remainder Divided 1 ULT Then all of the congregation of the sons of Israel assembled at Shiloh, and they placed the Tent of Meeting there. And the land was subdued to their face. BSB BSB: Then the whole congregation of Israel assembled at Shiloh and set up the Tent of Meeting there. And though the land was subdued before them,
2 ULT And seven tribes remained among the sons of Israel{ to} which they had not divided their inheritance. BSB BSB: there were still seven tribes of Israel who had not yet received their inheritance.
3 ULT And Joshua said to the sons of Israel,“Unto when will you slacken yourselves to enter to possess the land that Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has given to you? BSB BSB: So Joshua said to the Israelites, “How long will you put off entering and possessing the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?
4 ULT Provide for yourselves three men to a tribe. And I will send them, and they shall arise and walk about in the land and write it down according to the mouth of their inheritance, and they shall come to me. BSB BSB: Appoint three men from each tribe, and I will send them out to survey the land and map it out, according to the inheritance of each. Then they will return to me
5 ULT And they shall divide it among themselves into seven divisions. Judah will stand on its border from the south, and the house of Joseph will stand on their border from the north. BSB BSB: and divide the land into seven portions. Judah shall remain in their territory in the south, and the house of Joseph shall remain in their territory in the north.
6 ULT And you shall write down the land{ in} seven divisions and bring them to me here. And I will throw a lot for you here to the face of Yahweh our God. BSB BSB: When you have mapped out the seven portions of land and brought it to me, I will cast lots for you here in the presence of the LORD our God.
7 ULT But no division{ will be} within you for the Levites, because the priesthood of Yahweh{ is} their inheritance. And Gad and Reuben and half of the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance from the other side of the Jordan toward the sunrise, which Moses, the servant of Yahweh, gave to them.” BSB BSB: The Levites, however, have no portion among you, because their inheritance is the priesthood of the LORD. And Gad, Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already received the inheritance that Moses the servant of the LORD gave them beyond the Jordan to the east.”
8 ULT And the men arose and went. And Joshua commanded the going ones to write down the land, saying,“Go and walk about in the land and write it down and return to me. And here I will throw a lot for you to the face of Yahweh in Shiloh.” BSB BSB: As the men got up to go out, Joshua commanded them to map out the land, saying, “Go and survey the land, map it out, and return to me. Then I will cast lots for you here in Shiloh in the presence of the LORD.”
9 ULT And the men went and passed over in the land, and they wrote it down upon a scroll according to the cities in seven divisions. And they came to Joshua, to the camp{ at} Shiloh. BSB BSB: So the men departed and went throughout the land, mapping it city by city into seven portions. Then they returned with the document to Joshua at the camp in Shiloh.
10 ULT And Joshua threw a lot for them in Shiloh to the face of Yahweh. And there Joshua divided the land to the sons of Israel according to their divisions. BSB BSB: And Joshua cast lots for them in the presence of the LORD at Shiloh, where he distributed the land to the Israelites according to their divisions.
Benjamin’s Inheritance 11 ULT And the lot of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin according to their clans came up. And the border of their lot went out between the sons of Judah and between the sons of Joseph. BSB BSB: The first lot came up for the clans of the tribe of Benjamin. Their allotted territory lay between the tribes of Judah and Joseph:
12 ULT And the border for them to the mouth northward was from the Jordan. And the border went up to the shoulder of Jericho from the north, then it went up in the hill country seaward. And its goings out were from the wilderness{ at} Beth Aven. BSB BSB: On the north side their border began at the Jordan, went up past the northern slope of Jericho, headed west through the hill country, and came out at the wilderness of Beth-aven.
13 ULT And the border passed over from there toward Luz, to the shoulder of Luz southward(it{ is} Bethel). And the border went down{ to} Ataroth Addar, beside the mountain that{ is} from the south to Lower Beth Horon. BSB BSB: From there the border crossed over to the southern slope of Luz (that is, Bethel) and went down to Ataroth-addar on the hill south of Lower Beth-horon.
14 ULT And the border turned and curved to the mouth of the sea southward from the mountain that{ is} on the face of Beth Horon southward. And its goings out were at Kiriath Baal(it{ is} Kiriath Jearim, a city of the sons of Judah). This{ was} the mouth of the sea. BSB BSB: On the west side the border curved southward from the hill facing Beth-horon on the south and came out at Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), a city of the sons of Judah. This was the western side.
15 ULT And the mouth southward was from the end of Kiriath Jearim. And the border went out seaward and went out to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah. BSB BSB: On the south side the border began at the outskirts of Kiriath-jearim and extended westward to the spring at the Waters of Nephtoah.
16 ULT And the border went down to the end of the mountain that{ is} on the face of the Valley of Ben Hinnom, which{ is} in the valley of the Raphaites northward. And it went down the Valley of Hinnom to the shoulder of the Jebusite southward, then it went down{ to} En Rogel. BSB BSB: Then it went down to the foot of the hill that faces the Valley of Ben-hinnom at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim and ran down the Valley of Hinnom toward the southern slope of the Jebusites and downward to En-rogel.
17 ULT Then it turned from the north and went out{ to} En Shemesh. Then it went out to Geliloth, which{ is} opposite the ascent of Adummim. Then it went down to the stone of Bohan, the son of Reuben. BSB BSB: From there it curved northward and proceeded to En-shemesh and on to Geliloth facing the Ascent of Adummim, and continued down to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.
18 ULT And it passed over to the shoulder of the front of the Arabah northward and went down to the Arabah. BSB BSB: Then it went on to the northern slope of Beth-arabah and went down into the valley.
19 ULT And the border passed over to the shoulder of Beth Hoglah northward. And the goings out of the border{ were} at the tongue of the Sea of Salt northward, at the end of the Jordan southward. This was the border of the south. BSB BSB: The border continued to the northern slope of Beth-hoglah and came out at the northern bay of the Salt Sea, at the mouth of the Jordan. This was the southern border.
20 ULT And the Jordan borders it to the mouth eastward. This{ was} the inheritance of the sons of Benjamin according to their clans, according to its borders all around. BSB BSB: On the east side the border was the Jordan. These were the borders around the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
21 ULT And the cities of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin according to their clans were Jericho and Beth Hoglah and Emek Keziz BSB BSB: These were the cities of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin: Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keziz,
22 ULT and Beth Arabah and Zemaraim and Bethel BSB BSB: Beth-arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel,
23 ULT and Avvim and Parah and Ophrah BSB BSB: Avvim, Parah, Ophrah,
24 ULT and Kephar Ammoni and Ophni and Geba: 12 cities and their villages; BSB BSB: Chephar-ammoni, Ophni, and Geba—twelve cities, along with their villages.
25 ULT Gibeon and Ramah and Beeroth BSB BSB: Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth,
27 ULT and Rekem and Irpeel and Taralah BSB BSB: Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah,
28 ULT and Zelah, Haeleph, and the Jebusite(it{ is} Jerusalem), Gibeah, Kiriath: 14 cities and their villages. This{ was} the inheritance of the sons of Benjamin according to their clans. BSB BSB: Zelah, Haeleph, Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath-jearim—fourteen cities, along with their villages. This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
