The Circumcision and Passover at Gilgal 1 ULT And it happened that when all of the kings of the Amorite who{ were} on the other side of the Jordan, toward the sea, and all of the kings of the Canaanite who{ were} beside the sea heard that Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan from the face of the sons of Israel until they had crossed over, then their heart melted, and a spirit was no longer in them from the face of the sons of Israel. BSB BSB: Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the Israelites until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and their spirits failed for fear of the Israelites.
ULT At that time Yahweh said to Joshua,“Make for yourself knives of flint and again, circumcise the sons of Israel a second time.” BSB BSB: At that time the LORD said to Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise the sons of Israel once again.”
ULT So Joshua made for himself knives of flint. And he circumcised the sons of Israel at Gibeath Haaraloth. BSB BSB: So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the sons of Israel at Gibeath-haaraloth.
ULT And this{ is} the reason that Joshua circumcised{ them}: All of the people having come out from Egypt, the males, all of the men of war, had died in the wilderness on the way, in their coming out from Egypt. BSB BSB: Now this is why Joshua circumcised them: All those who came out of Egypt—all the men of war—had died on the journey in the wilderness after they had left Egypt.
ULT For all of the people having come out were circumcised, but all the people born in the wilderness on the way in their coming out from Egypt they did not circumcise. BSB BSB: Though all who had come out were circumcised, none of those born in the wilderness on the journey from Egypt had been circumcised.
ULT For the sons of Israel had walked in the wilderness 40 years, until the finishing of all of the nation of the men of war having come out from Egypt, because they had not listened to the voice of Yahweh, to whom Yahweh had sworn not to let them see the land that Yahweh had sworn to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing{ with} milk and honey. BSB BSB: For the Israelites had wandered in the wilderness forty years, until all the nation’s men of war who had come out of Egypt had died, since they did not obey the LORD. So the LORD vowed never to let them see the land He had sworn to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
ULT And he raised up their sons instead of them; Joshua circumcised them. For they were uncircumcised because they had not circumcised them on the way. BSB BSB: And He raised up their sons in their place, and these were the ones Joshua circumcised. Until this time they were still uncircumcised, since they had not been circumcised along the way.
ULT And it happened when all of the nation had finished being circumcised, that they stayed in their places in the camp until their recovering. BSB BSB: And after all the nation had been circumcised, they stayed there in the camp until they were healed.
ULT And Yahweh said to Joshua,“Today I have rolled away the disgrace of Egypt from upon you.” So one calls the name of that place Gilgal to this day. BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” So that place has been called Gilgal to this day.
ULT And the sons of Israel camped at Gilgal, and they performed the Passover on day 14 of the month, in the evening, on the plains of Jericho. BSB BSB: On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while the Israelites were camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, they kept the Passover.
ULT And they ate from the produce of the land, from the morrow of the Passover, unleavened cakes and roasted{ grain}, on that same day. BSB BSB: The day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate unleavened bread and roasted grain from the produce of the land.
ULT And the manna stopped from the morrow of their eating from the yield of the land, and manna was no longer for the sons of Israel. And they ate from the produce of the land of Canaan in that year. BSB BSB: And the day after they had eaten from the produce of the land, the manna ceased. There was no more manna for the Israelites, so that year they began to eat the crops of the land of Canaan.
The Commander of the LORD’s Army 13 ULT And it happened, in Joshua being by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man{ was} standing in front of him and his drawn sword{ was} in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him,“Are you for us or for our enemies?” BSB BSB: Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies?”
ULT And he said,“No, but I myself have now come{ as} the commander of the army of Yahweh.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and bowed down. And he said to him,“What{ is} my lord speaking to his servant?” BSB BSB: “Neither,” He replied. “I have now come as Commander of the LORD’s army.” Then Joshua fell facedown in reverence and asked Him, “What does my Lord have to say to His servant?”
ULT And the commander of the army of Yahweh said to Joshua,“Slip off your sandal from upon your foot, because the place that you are standing on, it{ is} holy.” And Joshua did so. BSB BSB: The Commander of the LORD’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
