Additional Blessings of Obedience 1 ULT You shall not make for yourselves worthless little gods, and a carved image and a pillar you shall not raise up for yourselves, and a stone of imagery you shall not put in your land to bow down to it, for I{ am} Yahweh your God. BSB BSB: “You must not make idols for yourselves or set up a carved image or sacred pillar; you must not place a sculpted stone in your land to bow down to it. For I am the LORD your God.
2 ULT My Sabbaths you shall keep and my holy place you shall fear. I{ am} Yahweh. BSB BSB: You must keep My Sabbaths and have reverence for My sanctuary. I am the LORD.
3 ULT If you walk in my statutes and keep my commandments and do them, BSB BSB: If you follow My statutes and carefully keep My commandments,
4 ULT then I will give your rains in their time, and the land will give its produce, and the tree of the field will give its fruit. BSB BSB: I will give you rains in their season, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.
5 ULT And threshing will reach grape harvest for you, and grape harvest will reach seed, and you will eat your bread to satisfaction, and you will dwell in security in your land. BSB BSB: Your threshing will continue until the grape harvest, and the grape harvest will continue until sowing time; you will have your fill of food to eat and will dwell securely in your land.
6 ULT And I will give peace in the land, and you will lie down and there will be no one making{ you} afraid. And I will remove harmful animals from the land, and a sword will not pass through in your land. BSB BSB: And I will give peace to the land, and you will lie down with nothing to fear. I will rid the land of dangerous animals, and no sword will pass through your land.
7 ULT And you will pursue your enemies, and they will fall to your faces to the sword. BSB BSB: You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you.
8 ULT And five from you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred from you will pursue ten thousand, and your enemies will fall to your faces to the sword. BSB BSB: Five of you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you will pursue ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.
9 ULT And I will turn to you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will establish my covenant with you. BSB BSB: I will turn toward you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will establish My covenant with you.
10 ULT And you will eat old{ grain that is} getting old, and you will bring out the old from the face of the new. BSB BSB: You will still be eating the old supply of grain when you need to clear it out to make room for the new.
11 ULT And I will put my dwelling place in your midst, and my soul will not reject you. BSB BSB: And I will make My dwelling place among you, and My soul will not despise you.
12 ULT And I will walk in your midst and be God to you, and you will be a people to me. BSB BSB: I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be My people.
13 ULT I{ am} Yahweh your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt from being slaves to them, and I broke the bars of your yoke and made you walk upright. BSB BSB: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk in uprightness.
Punishments for Disobedience (Leviticus 20:1–9; Deuteronomy 28:15–68)
14 ULT But if you will not listen to me and will not do all these commandments, BSB BSB: If, however, you fail to obey Me and to carry out all these commandments,
15 ULT and if you reject my statutes, and if your soul detests my judgments so as not to do all my commandments,{ so} you break my covenant, BSB BSB: and if you reject My statutes, despise My ordinances, and neglect to carry out all My commandments, and so break My covenant,
16 ULT { then} I also, I will do this to you: And I will appoint over you terror, the consumption and the fever, making eyes fail and causing life to pine away. And you shall sow your seed{ in} vain, and your enemies shall eat it. BSB BSB: then this is what I will do to you: I will bring upon you sudden terror, wasting disease, and fever that will destroy your sight and drain your life. You will sow your seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.
17 ULT And I will set my face against you, and you shall be struck down to the face of your enemies. And those who hate you shall rule over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you. BSB BSB: And I will set My face against you, so that you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee when no one pursues you.
18 ULT And if up to these{ things} you will not listen to me, then I will continue to discipline you seven{ times} for your sins. BSB BSB: And if after all this you will not obey Me, I will proceed to punish you sevenfold for your sins.
19 ULT Then I will break the pride of your strength, and I will make your heavens like iron and your land like bronze. BSB BSB: I will break down your stubborn pride and make your sky like iron and your land like bronze,
20 ULT And your strength shall be exhausted{ in} vain, and your land shall not give its produce, and the tree of the land shall not give its fruit. BSB BSB: and your strength will be spent in vain. For your land will not yield its produce, and the trees of the land will not bear their fruit.
22 ULT And I will send the animal of the field against you, and it will bereave you, and it will cut off your cattle, and it will make you few, and your roads will be desolate. BSB BSB: I will send wild animals against you to rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and reduce your numbers, until your roads lie desolate.
23 ULT And if by these{ things} you will not accept my discipline but walk with me{ in} hostility, BSB BSB: And if in spite of these things you do not accept My discipline, but continue to walk in hostility toward Me,
24 ULT then I myself will also walk with you in hostility, and I myself will also strike you seven{ times} for your sins. BSB BSB: then I will act with hostility toward you, and I will strike you sevenfold for your sins.
25 ULT And I will bring upon you a sword avenging the vengeance of the covenant, and you will be gathered into your cities. And I will send pestilence into your midst, and you will be given into the hand of an enemy. BSB BSB: And I will bring a sword against you to execute the vengeance of the covenant. Though you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
26 ULT When I break to you the staff of bread, then ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will return your bread by weight, and you will eat but not be satisfied. BSB BSB: When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will bake your bread in a single oven and dole out your bread by weight, so that you will eat but not be satisfied.
27 ULT And if in spite of this you will not listen to me but walk with me in hostility, BSB BSB: But if in spite of all this you do not obey Me, but continue to walk in hostility toward Me,
28 ULT then I will walk with you in the heat of hostility, and I myself will also discipline you seven{ times} for your sins. BSB BSB: then I will walk in fury against you, and I, even I, will punish you sevenfold for your sins.
29 ULT And you will eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters you will eat. BSB BSB: You will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.
30 ULT And I will destroy your high places, and I will cut down your incense altars, and I will pile your corpses on the corpses of your idols, and my soul will detest you. BSB BSB: I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and heap your lifeless bodies on the lifeless remains of your idols; and My soul will despise you.
31 ULT And I will make your cities a waste, and I will make desolate your holy places, and I will not smell your pleasing aromas. BSB BSB: I will reduce your cities to rubble and lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will refuse to smell the pleasing aroma of your sacrifices.
32 ULT And I, I will make the land desolate, and your enemies, the dwellers in it, will be appalled at it. BSB BSB: And I will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who dwell in it will be appalled.
33 ULT And you I will scatter among the nations, and I will draw out a sword after you, and your land will be a desolation, and your cities will be a waste. BSB BSB: But I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out a sword after you as your land becomes desolate and your cities are laid waste.
34 ULT Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths all the days of its desolation, and you{ will be} in the land of your enemies. Then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. BSB BSB: Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days it lies desolate, while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time the land will rest and enjoy its Sabbaths.
35 ULT All the days of its desolation it will rest, what it did not rest in your sabbaths, when you dwelt on it. BSB BSB: As long as it lies desolate, the land will have the rest it did not receive during the Sabbaths when you lived in it.
36 ULT And the remaining in you, and I will bring faintness into their heart in the land of their enemies. And the sound of a driven leaf will chase them, and they will flee{ as} fleeing from a sword, and they will fall when there is no pursuer. BSB BSB: As for those of you who survive, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies, so that even the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight. And they will flee as one flees the sword, and fall when no one pursues them.
37 ULT And they will stumble, one on his brother, as from the face of a sword but there is no pursuer, and to you there will be no power to stand to the face of your enemies. BSB BSB: They will stumble over one another as before the sword, though no one is behind them. So you will not be able to stand against your enemies.
38 ULT And you will perish in the nations, and the land of your enemies will consume you. BSB BSB: You will perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies will consume you.
39 ULT And the remaining in you will rot away in their iniquity in the lands of your enemies, and also in the iniquities of their fathers they will rot away with them. BSB BSB: Those of you who survive in the lands of your enemies will waste away in their iniquity and will decay in the sins of their fathers.
God Remembers Those Who Repent 40 ULT And they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers in their unfaithfulness which they were unfaithful to me, and also that they walked with me in hostility, BSB BSB: But if they will confess their iniquity and that of their fathers in the unfaithfulness that they practiced against Me, by which they have also walked in hostility toward Me—
41 ULT (I also, I walked with them in hostility and brought them into the land of their enemies)— if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled, and they accept their iniquity, BSB BSB: and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies—and if their uncircumcised hearts will be humbled and they will make amends for their iniquity,
42 ULT then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham I will remember, and the land I will remember. BSB BSB: then I will remember My covenant with Jacob and My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.
43 ULT And the land will be deserted by them and will enjoy its sabbaths in its desolation from them. And they, they will accept their iniquity because, even because they rejected my judgments and their soul detested my statutes. BSB BSB: For the land will be abandoned by them, and it will enjoy its Sabbaths by lying desolate without them. And they will pay the penalty for their iniquity, because they rejected My ordinances and abhorred My statutes.
44 ULT And yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I detest them to destroy them completely, to break my covenant with them, for I{ am} Yahweh their God. BSB BSB: Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject or despise them so as to destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God.
45 ULT But I will remember for them the covenant of the first, whom I brought them out from the land of Egypt to the eyes of the nations to be God to them. I am Yahweh.’” BSB BSB: But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their fathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.”
46 ULT These{ are} the statutes and the judgments and the laws which Yahweh gave between him and between the sons of Israel on Mount Sinai by the hand of Moses. BSB BSB: These are the statutes, ordinances, and laws that the LORD established between Himself and the Israelites through Moses on Mount Sinai.
