Temple Destruction and Other Signs (Matthew 24:1–8; Luke 21:5–9)
ULT And Jesus said to him,“Do you see these great buildings? A stone upon a stone will certainly not be left here, which will certainly not be torn down.” BSB BSB: “Do you see all these great buildings?” Jesus replied. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
ULT And he sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew were asking him by themselves, BSB BSB: While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately,
ULT “Tell us, when will these things be? And what{ is} the sign when all these things are about to be completed?” BSB BSB: “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to be fulfilled?”
ULT Now Jesus began to say to them,“Be careful that no one leads you astray. BSB BSB: Jesus began by telling them, “See to it that no one deceives you.
ULT Many will come in my name, saying,‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray. BSB BSB: Many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many.
ULT But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; it is necessary{ for this} to happen, but the end{ is} not yet. BSB BSB: When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come.
ULT For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These things{ are} the beginning of birth pains. BSB BSB: Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, as well as famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.
Witnessing to All Nations (Matthew 24:9–14; Luke 21:10–19)
ULT But you, watch yourselves! They will hand you over to councils, and in synagogues you will be beaten, and you will be made to stand before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them. BSB BSB: So be on your guard. You will be delivered over to the councils and beaten in the synagogues. On My account you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them.
ULT And first, it is necessary for the gospel to be proclaimed to all the nations. BSB BSB: And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all the nations.
ULT And when they lead you away, handing{ you} over, do not worry about what you will say. But whatever is given to you in that hour, speak that; for you are not the ones speaking, but the Holy Spirit. BSB BSB: But when they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand what to say. Instead, speak whatever you are given at that time, for it will not be you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
ULT And brother will hand over brother to death, and a father, his child, and children will rise up against parents and put them to death. BSB BSB: Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rise against their parents and have them put to death.
ULT And you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one having endured to the end, this one will be saved. BSB BSB: You will be hated by everyone because of My name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.

ULT But when you see the abomination of desolation standing where he should not be”(let the one reading understand),“then let the ones in Judea flee to the mountains, BSB BSB: So when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

ULT But woe to the ones having in the womb and to the ones nursing in those days! BSB BSB: How miserable those days will be for pregnant and nursing mothers!
ULT But pray that it might not happen in winter. BSB BSB: Pray that this will not occur in the winter.
ULT For there will be in those days tribulation— such as this kind has not happened from the beginning of creation which God created until now and will certainly not happen. BSB BSB: For those will be days of tribulation unseen from the beginning of God’s creation until now, and never to be seen again.
ULT And if the Lord did not shorten the days, no flesh would be saved. But because of the elect whom he chose, he shortened the days. BSB BSB: If the Lord had not cut short those days, nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom He has chosen, He has cut them short.
ULT And then if anyone says to you,‘Behold, here{ is} the Christ! Behold, there!’ do not believe{ it}. BSB BSB: At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There He is!’ do not believe it.
ULT For false Christs and false prophets will be raised up and will give signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. BSB BSB: For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive even the elect, if that were possible.
ULT But you, watch out! Behold, I have told you everything beforehand. BSB BSB: So be on your guard; I have told you everything in advance.

ULT But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; BSB BSB: But in those days, after that tribulation: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;
ULT and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. BSB BSB: the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’
ULT And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with much power and glory. BSB BSB: At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

ULT Now learn the parable from the fig tree: When its branch already becomes tender and it puts out leaves, you know that the summer is near. BSB BSB: Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its branches become tender and sprout leaves, you know that summer is near.
ULT Thus also you, when you see these things happening, know that it is near, at the doors. BSB BSB: So also, when you see these things happening, know that He is near, right at the door.
ULT Truly I say to you that this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things happen. BSB BSB: Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have happened.

Readiness at Any Hour (Matthew 24:36–51; Luke 12:35–48)
ULT Watch! Stay awake and pray, for you do not know when the time is. BSB BSB: Be on your guard and stay alert! For you do not know when the appointed time will come.
ULT As a man on a journey, having left his house, and having given authority to his servants, to each his work, also he commanded the doorkeeper that he should stay alert; BSB BSB: It is like a man going on a journey who left his house, put each servant in charge of his own task, and instructed the doorkeeper to keep watch.
ULT therefore, stay alert, because you do not know when the lord of the house is coming— whether evening or midnight or at rooster crowing or at morning— BSB BSB: Therefore keep watch, because you do not know when the master of the house will return—whether in the evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or in the morning.
ULT lest, having come suddenly, he might find you sleeping. BSB BSB: Otherwise, he may arrive without notice and find you sleeping.
ULT But what I say to you I say to all: Stay alert!” BSB BSB: And what I say to you, I say to everyone: Keep watch!”
