Judging Others (Luke 6:37–42; Romans 14:1–12)
ULT For with the judgment by which you judge, you will be judged, and with the measure by which you measure, it will be measured to you. BSB BSB: For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
ULT Now why do you look at the speck of wood that{ is} in the eye of your brother, but you do not notice the log in your eye? BSB BSB: Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?
ULT Or how will you say to your brother,‘Let me take out the speck of wood from your eye,’ while behold, the log{ is} in your eye? BSB BSB: How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while there is still a beam in your own eye?
ULT You hypocrite! First take out the log from your eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck of wood from the eye of your brother. BSB BSB: You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
ULT You should neither give the holy to the dogs nor should you throw your pearls in front of the pigs. Otherwise, they will trample them under their feet, and having turned, they will tear you to pieces. BSB BSB: Do not give dogs what is holy; do not throw your pearls before swine. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.
Ask, Seek, Knock (Luke 11:5–13)
ULT Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. BSB BSB: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
ULT For everyone asking receives; and the one seeking finds; and to the one knocking, it will be opened. BSB BSB: For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
ULT Or what man is there from among you, of whom his son will ask for bread— he will not give him a stone, will he? BSB BSB: Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
ULT Or he will also ask for a fish— he will not give him a snake, will he? BSB BSB: Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
ULT Therefore, if you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in the heavens give good things to the ones asking him? BSB BSB: So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
ULT Therefore, all things in as much as you desire that men do to you, in this manner also, you do to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. BSB BSB: In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.
The Narrow Gate (Luke 13:22–30)
ULT Enter through the narrow gate. For wide{ is} the gate and broad{ is} the road that is leading to destruction, and there are many entering through it. BSB BSB: Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
ULT For the gate{ is} narrow and the road has been made narrow that is leading to life, and there are few finding it. BSB BSB: But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.
A Tree and Its Fruit (Luke 6:43–45)
ULT Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’ s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. BSB BSB: Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
ULT In the same way, every good tree produces good fruits, but the rotten tree produces bad fruits. BSB BSB: Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
ULT A good tree is not able to produce bad fruits, nor a rotten tree to produce good fruits. BSB BSB: A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
ULT Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into a fire. BSB BSB: Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
ULT So then, by their fruits you will recognize them. BSB BSB: So then, by their fruit you will recognize them.
ULT Many will say to me in that day,‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty deeds?’ BSB BSB: Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
ULT And then I will publicly declare to them,‘I never knew you! Go away from me, the ones practicing lawlessness!’ BSB BSB: Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’
The House on the Rock (Luke 6:46–49)
ULT Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be compared to a wise man who built his house upon the rock. BSB BSB: Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
ULT And the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and struck against that house, but it did not fall down, for it had been founded on the rock. BSB BSB: The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock.
ULT But everyone hearing these words of mine and not doing them will be compared to a foolish man who built his house upon the sand. BSB BSB: But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
ULT And the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and struck against that house, and it fell, and its destruction was great.” BSB BSB: The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its collapse!”
The Authority of Jesus 28 ULT And it happened that when Jesus finished speaking these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, BSB BSB: When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astonished at His teaching,
ULT for he was teaching them as having authority, and not as their scribes. BSB BSB: because He taught as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
