A Ruler from Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1–12)
1 ULT Now gather yourself as a troop, daughter troop! He has set a siege against us; with the rod they strike on the cheek the judge of Israel. BSB BSB: Now, O daughter of troops, mobilize your troops; for a siege is laid against us! With a rod they will strike the cheek of the judge of Israel.
3 ULT Therefore he will give them up until the time{ when} the bearing{ one} gives birth, and the remainder of his brothers will return to the sons of Israel. BSB BSB: Therefore Israel will be abandoned until she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of His brothers will return to the children of Israel.
4 ULT And he will stand and shepherd in the strength of Yahweh, in the majesty of the name of Yahweh his God. And they will dwell, for now he will be great to the ends of the earth. BSB BSB: He will stand and shepherd His flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majestic name of the LORD His God. And they will dwell securely, for then His greatness will extend to the ends of the earth.
5 ULT And this one will be peace. Assyria— when he comes into our land, and when he treads on our citadels, then we will raise up against him seven shepherds and eight princes of man. BSB BSB: And He will be our peace when Assyria invades our land and tramples our citadels. We will raise against it seven shepherds, even eight leaders of men.
6 ULT And they will shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in its entrances. And he will deliver{ us} from Assyria, when he comes into our land, and when he treads within our border. BSB BSB: And they will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod with the blade drawn. So He will deliver us when Assyria invades our land and marches into our borders.
The Remnant of Jacob (Micah 2:12–13)
7 ULT And the remnant of Jacob will be in the midst of many peoples, like dew from Yahweh, like showers on the grass, that does not wait for a man and does not hope for the sons of man. BSB BSB: Then the remnant of Jacob will be in the midst of many peoples like dew from the LORD, like showers on the grass, which do not wait for man or linger for mankind.
8 ULT And the remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the animals of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep, who, if he passes through, both tramples and tears, and there is no deliverer. BSB BSB: Then the remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which tramples and tears as it passes through, with no one to rescue them.
9 ULT May your hand rise over your adversaries, and may all of your enemies be cut off! BSB BSB: Your hand will be lifted over your foes, and all your enemies will be cut off.
10 ULT And it will be on that day— the declaration of Yahweh— that I will cut off your horses from your midst, and I will destroy your chariots. BSB BSB: “In that day,” declares the LORD, “I will remove your horses from among you and wreck your chariots.
11 ULT And I will cut off the cities of your land, and I will tear down all of your fortifications. BSB BSB: I will remove the cities of your land and tear down all your strongholds.
12 ULT And I will cut off sorceries from your hand, and soothsayers will not be to you. BSB BSB: I will cut the sorceries from your hand, and you will have no fortune-tellers.
13 ULT And I will cut off your carved images and your stone pillars from your midst, and you will no longer bow down to the work of your hands. BSB BSB: I will also cut off the carved images and sacred pillars from among you, so that you will no longer bow down to the work of your own hands.
14 ULT And I will uproot your Asherah s from your midst, and I will destroy your cities. BSB BSB: I will root out the Asherah poles from your midst and demolish your cities.
15 ULT And I will execute in nose and in wrath vengeance on the nations that have not listened. BSB BSB: I will take vengeance in anger and wrath upon the nations that have not obeyed Me.”
