Psalm 64 64 Psalms Book 2 unfoldingWord® Literal Text The Hurtful Tongue (James 3:1–12)
ULT Hear my voice, God, in my complaint. Preserve my life from fear of the enemy. BSB BSB: For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Hear, O God, my voice of complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
ULT Hide me from the council of evildoers, from the throng of the workers of iniquity, BSB BSB: Hide me from the scheming of the wicked, from the mob of workers of iniquity,
ULT who have sharpened their tongue like a sword. They tread their arrow, a bitter word, BSB BSB: who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows,
ULT to shoot the innocent from secret places; suddenly they shoot, and they do not fear. BSB BSB: ambushing the innocent in seclusion, shooting suddenly, without fear.
ULT They strengthen for themselves an evil matter; they recount hiding snares. They say,“Who will see them?” BSB BSB: They hold fast to their evil purpose; they speak of hiding their snares. “Who will see them?” they say.
ULT They devise iniquities.“We have perfected a well- devised device!” Both the inside of man and the heart{ are} deep. BSB BSB: They devise injustice and say, “We have perfected a secret plan.” For the inner man and the heart are mysterious.
ULT But God will shoot an arrow; suddenly their wounds will happen. BSB BSB: But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be wounded.
ULT And they will make it stumble over them, their tongue. Everyone seeing them will flee. BSB BSB: They will be made to stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will shake their heads.
ULT And all of mankind will fear, and they will declare the work of God, for they will consider his deed. BSB BSB: Then all mankind will fear and proclaim the work of God; so they will ponder what He has done.
ULT The righteous will rejoice in Yahweh and take refuge in him, and all of the upright of heart will celebrate. BSB BSB: Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in Him; let all the upright in heart exult.
