Bezalel and Oholiab (Exodus 35:30–35)
1 UST Yahweh said to Moses, BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
2 UST “Pay attention. I have chosen a man named Bezalel, son of Uri and grandson of Hur, from the tribe descended from Judah. BSB BSB: “See, I have called by name Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.
3 UST I will cause my spirit to teach him to know how to make all kinds of fine goods wisely and intelligently. BSB BSB: And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of craftsmanship,
4 UST He can engrave skillful designs in gold, silver, and bronze. BSB BSB: to design artistic works in gold, silver, and bronze,
5 UST He can cut jewels and enclose them in tiny gold settings. He can carve things from wood and do other skilled work. BSB BSB: to cut gemstones for settings, and to carve wood, so that he may be a master of every craft.
6 UST Pay attention! I have also appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, from the tribe of Dan, to work with him. I have also given special ability to other skilled men in order that they can make all the things that I have commanded you to make. BSB BSB: Moreover, I have selected Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, as his assistant. I have also given skill to all the craftsmen, that they may fashion all that I have commanded you:
7 UST Those things include: The sacred tent; the sacred chest with its lid on top of it; all the other things that will be inside the sacred tent, BSB BSB: the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the Testimony and the mercy seat upon it, and all the other furnishings of the tent—
8 UST the table and all the things that the priests use with it, the pure{ gold} lampstand and all the things that the priests use to take care of it, the altar for burning incense, BSB BSB: the table with its utensils, the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense,
9 UST the altar for burning sacrifices and all the things the priests use with it, and the washbasin with its base; BSB BSB: the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin with its stand—
10 UST the beautiful, sacred vestments for Aaron and his sons to wear when they work as priests; BSB BSB: as well as the woven garments, both the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons to serve as priests,
11 UST the oil for anointing, and the sweet- smelling incense for the Holy Place. The craftsmen must make all these things exactly as I have told you that they should do.” BSB BSB: in addition to the anointing oil and fragrant incense for the Holy Place. They are to make them according to all that I have commanded you.”
The Sign of the Sabbath (Numbers 15:32–36)
12 UST Yahweh said to Moses, BSB BSB: And the LORD said to Moses,
13 UST “Tell the Israelites,‘Constantly obey{ my instructions regarding} the Sabbath days{ for rest}. Those days will remind me and you and your descendants, throughout all future generations, that I, Yahweh, have dedicated you{ to be my people}. BSB BSB: “Tell the Israelites, ‘Surely you must keep My Sabbaths, for this will be a sign between Me and you for the generations to come, so that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.
14 UST You must obey my rules about the Sabbath days for rest, because you must regard them as dedicated to me. You must kill people who disrespect these days by working on them. You must remove them from Israel. BSB BSB: Keep the Sabbath, for it is holy to you. Anyone who profanes it must surely be put to death. Whoever does any work on that day must be cut off from among his people.
15 UST You may work for six days{ each week}, but the seventh day{ of each week} is a solemn Sabbath- rest day, dedicated to me, Yahweh. You must execute anyone who does any work on a Sabbath day{ of rest}. BSB BSB: For six days work may be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must surely be put to death.
16 UST The Israelites must respect the Sabbath{ days of rest}, and rest on them throughout all future generations. This agreement never ends BSB BSB: The Israelites must keep the Sabbath, celebrating it as a permanent covenant for the generations to come.
17 UST between me and the Israelites. It will remind you forever that I, Yahweh, created the heavens and the earth in six days, and on the seventh day I stopped doing that work and recuperated.’” BSB BSB: It is a sign between Me and the Israelites forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, but on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’”
Moses Receives the Tablets 18 UST When Yahweh finished talking with Moses on the top of Mount Sinai, he gave him the two stone slabs on which he had engraved his commandments with his own fingers. BSB BSB: When the LORD had finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, He gave him the two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.
