God Promises Deliverance 1 UST Then Yahweh said to Moses,“Now you will see what I will do to the king when I make him let my people go. I will powerfully force him to chase them from his land!” BSB BSB: But the LORD said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh, for because of My mighty hand he will let the people go; because of My strong hand he will drive them out of his land.”
2 UST God spoke to Moses again,“I am Yahweh. BSB BSB: God also told Moses, “I am the LORD.
3 UST I showed myself to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as God Almighty, but they did not fully comprehend{ the meaning of} my name Yahweh. BSB BSB: I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by My name the LORD I did not make Myself known to them.
4 UST I also agreed to bless them. I promised to give them, as their own, the land where the descendants of Canaan live. That was the land in which they lived as foreigners. BSB BSB: I also established My covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land where they lived as foreigners.
5 UST Furthermore, I have heard the Israelites complaining because the Egyptians have made them slaves. I always remember what I promised. BSB BSB: Furthermore, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered My covenant.
6 UST Therefore tell the Israelite people that I said this:‘I am Yahweh. I will take the Egyptian’ s heavy loads off your back. I will deliver you from being their slaves. I will very powerfully save you by punishing them very harshly. BSB BSB: Therefore tell the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians and deliver you from their bondage. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.
7 UST I will claim you as my own people, and I will be the God{ you worship}. You will truly know that I am Yahweh, your God who frees you from the heavy loads that the Egyptians make you carry. BSB BSB: I will take you as My own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.
8 UST I will bring you to the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. I will give it to you, and it will be yours. I, Yahweh, am{ promising this}.’” BSB BSB: And I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD!’”
9 UST Moses told that to the Israelites, but they did not believe what he said, because they were discouraged and overworked. BSB BSB: Moses relayed this message to the Israelites, but on account of their broken spirit and cruel bondage, they did not listen to him.
10 UST Then Yahweh said to Moses, BSB BSB: So the LORD said to Moses,
11 UST “Go tell the king of Egypt that he must allow the Israelites to leave his land!” BSB BSB: “Go and tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his land.”
12 UST But Moses said to Yahweh,“Certainly, if the Israelites have not paid attention to what I told them, the king will not pay attention to what I tell him, since I am a poor speaker.” BSB BSB: But in the LORD’s presence Moses replied, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, then why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I am unskilled in speech?”
13 UST But Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron and commanded them to go to the Israelites and to the king of Egypt in order to free the Israelites from their slavery in Egypt. BSB BSB: Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them a charge concerning both the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt.
Genealogies of Moses and Aaron 14 UST These are the original clan leaders: Jacob’ s oldest son Reuben had these sons: Hanok, Pallu, Hezron, and Karmi. The clans of Reuben are descended from them. 15 UST The sons of Simeon were: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul. Shaul’ s mother was a woman from the land of Canaan. They were ancestors of clans that have those same names. 16 UST These are the names of the descendants of Levi in each generation: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. Levi was 137 years old when he died. BSB BSB: These were the names of the sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. Levi lived 137 years.
17 UST The sons of Gershon were Libni and Shimei. They were ancestors of clans that have those names. BSB BSB: The sons of Gershon were Libni and Shimei, by their clans.
18 UST The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. Kohath was 133 years old when he died. BSB BSB: The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years.
19 UST The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were ancestors of clans that descended from Levi by each generation. BSB BSB: The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites according to their records.
20 UST Amram married his father’ s sister, Jochebed. She was the mother of Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years. BSB BSB: And Amram married his father’s sister Jochebed, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years.
21 UST The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri. BSB BSB: The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri.
22 UST The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri. BSB BSB: The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.
23 UST Aaron married Elisheba. She was the daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon. Elisheba gave birth to Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. BSB BSB: And Aaron married Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
24 UST The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. They were the ancestors of the Korahite people. BSB BSB: The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These were the clans of the Korahites.
25 UST Aaron’ s son Eleazar married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she gave birth to Phinehas. These were the clan leaders descended from Levi in each generation. 26 UST Aaron and Moses were the ones to whom Yahweh said,“Lead all the Israelites out of Egypt organized as army units.” BSB BSB: It was this Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, “Bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.”
27 UST They were the ones who spoke to the king of Egypt in order to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. BSB BSB: Moses and Aaron were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt in order to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.
28 UST On the day that Yahweh spoke to Moses in Egypt, BSB BSB: Now on the day that the LORD spoke to Moses in Egypt,
29 UST he said,“I am Yahweh. Tell the king everything that I say to you.” BSB BSB: He said to him, “I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I say to you.”
30 UST But Moses said to Yahweh,“Please listen to me. I am not a good speaker. So why should the king listen to what I tell him?” BSB BSB: But in the LORD’s presence Moses replied, “Since I am unskilled in speech, why would Pharaoh listen to me?”
