In My Father’s House Are Many Rooms 2 UST There are many places for people to dwell where my Father dwells. If that were not true, I would have told you so, because I will go there to prepare a place for you to dwell. BSB BSB: In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
3 UST And after I go there to prepare a place for you to dwell, I will return and take you to be with me, in order for you also to be with me where I am. BSB BSB: And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.
4 UST You know how to go to the place where I am going.” BSB BSB: You know the way to the place where I am going.”
The Way, the Truth, and the Life 5 UST Thomas said to him,“Lord, we have no idea where you are going! We cannot possibly know how to go there!” BSB BSB: “Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”
7 UST Since you know who I am, you know my Father also. From this time forward, you know him, and it is as though you have seen him.” BSB BSB: If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”
8 UST Philip said to Jesus,“Lord, let us see the Father and that will satisfy us!” BSB BSB: Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
10 UST You surely must believe that I and my Father are completely united! I did not speak all that I have spoken to you on my own. Rather, my Father who is united with me is working his own miraculous works through me. BSB BSB: Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works.
11 UST Trust me when I say that I and my Father are completely united! Otherwise, if you are not going to trust what I say, at least trust me on account of all the miraculous works{ that you have seen me do}. BSB BSB: Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me—or at least believe on account of the works themselves.
12 UST I am telling you the truth: Whoever trusts in me will also do the miraculous works that I do. He will do even greater works than those I do, because I am going to my Father. BSB BSB: Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 UST I will do anything that you request as my representative. I will do this in order that I, his Son, might show how great my Father is. BSB BSB: And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 UST I will do anything that you request from me as my representative. BSB BSB: If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit (John 16:5–16)
17 UST { He is} the Holy Spirit who declares what is true about God. The unbelieving people in the world cannot accept him, because they do not see him or know him. You disciples know this Spirit because he dwells with you, and he will later dwell in you. BSB BSB: the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.
18 UST I will not leave you without anyone to take care of you. I will soon return to you. BSB BSB: I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 UST In a little while the unbelievers in the world will not see me anymore, but you yourselves will see me again. Because I will soon live again, you too will live again. BSB BSB: In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.
20 UST When you see me again, you will know that I am united with my Father and that you and I are completely united. BSB BSB: On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.
21 UST Whoever knows and obeys what I command truly loves me. And my Father loves whoever loves me. I will love that person too, and I will reveal myself to that person.” BSB BSB: Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”
22 UST Judas(not Judas Iscariot,{ but a different disciple with the same name}) spoke to Jesus.{ He said,}“Lord, what has changed to cause you to reveal yourself just to us and not to all the people in the world?” BSB BSB: Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”
24 UST Whoever does not love me does not obey my teachings. What you have just heard me say I did not say on my own. Rather,{ what I have said has come} from my Father, who has sent me. BSB BSB: Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.
25 UST I have said these things to you while I am still with you. BSB BSB: All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
Peace I Leave with You 29 UST I have told you these things now before they happen so that you will continue to trust me when they do happen. BSB BSB: And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
30 UST I will not be able to talk with you much longer, because{ Satan,} the one who rules this world, is coming. But he has no control over me. BSB BSB: I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.
31 UST However, this will happen in order for the people in the world to know that I love my Father and I will do exactly what my Father has commanded me to do. Rise, let us leave this place.” BSB BSB: But I do exactly what the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us go on from here.
