If Yahweh had not been helping us— All Israelites should repeat this— BSB BSB: A song of ascents. Of David. If the LORD had not been on our side—let Israel now declare—
2 UST If Yahweh had not been helping us when our enemies attacked us, BSB BSB: if the LORD had not been on our side when men attacked us,
3 UST then they would have destroyed us completely, because they were so angry with us. BSB BSB: when their anger flared against us, then they would have swallowed us alive,
4 UST They would have overwhelmed us like a flood; they would have swept over us like a raging river. BSB BSB: then the floods would have engulfed us, then the torrent would have overwhelmed us,
5 UST { They would have destroyed us as completely as} raging waters would have drowned us. BSB BSB: then the raging waters would have swept us away.
6 UST We praise Yahweh because he did not let our enemies destroy us as wild animals devour their prey. BSB BSB: Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth.
7 UST We escaped from them like a bird that gets free from a hunter’ s trap. It was as though the trap broke, and, as for us, we went free! BSB BSB: We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowler; the net is torn, and we have slipped away.
8 UST Yahweh is the one who helps us; he is the one who made everything that exists. BSB BSB: Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
